〔《大》〕下死胎法。方用桂枝二钱，麝香当门子一个，同研，暖酒服。须臾，如手推下，比之用水银等，

邓知县传疗死胎不出∶朴硝研细半两，以童便温服下，屡效。
治死胎不下，指甲青，舌青，胀闷，口中作屎臭。先以平胃散一帖，作两服，每服酒水各一盏，煎
至一盏，却投朴硝半两，研细，再煎三五沸，温服，其胎化血水下。
治子死腹中不出，其母气欲绝。水银二两，吞之立效。

蛇蜕（一条，完整的，在香油灯上烧焦，研磨），麝香（少量）。
上为末，童便、酒各半盏，调一服即生，效。
以上研磨成粉，用童便和酒各半盏调服，一次服用后即可生出（排出），有效。

[From *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*] Method for expelling a dead fetus. The prescription uses two qian of Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) [specifically Cinnamomi Ramulus], and one Dangmenzi (Moschus, 麝香 - Musk), ground together, taken with warm wine. Shortly after, the fetus is expelled as if pushed out by hand; compared to using mercury etc., this medicine does not damage Qi and Blood.
A formula passed down by Zhao Heshu: Without Musk, use only one qian of Cinnamomi Ramulus powder, taken with urine from an uncircumcised boy when pain occurs, named Jiuku San (Rescue from Suffering Powder).
A method passed down by County Magistrate Deng for treating retained dead fetus: Half a liang of fine-powdered Poxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 朴硝 - Mirabilite), taken with warm urine from an uncircumcised boy, has been frequently effective.
For treating retained dead fetus, with cyanotic fingernails, cyanotic tongue, abdominal distension and oppression, and foul breath resembling feces. First, administer one dose of Pingwei San (Peace the Stomach Powder), divided into two servings. For each serving, decoct one liang of water and one liang of wine until reduced to one liang. Then add half a liang of finely powdered Poxiao (Natrii Sulfas), boil three to five times, and take warm. The fetus will dissolve and be expelled with bloody fluid.
For treating a fetus dead in the uterus that cannot be expelled, where the mother's Qi is about to fail. Two liang of Yinshui (Mercurius, 水银 - Mercury), swallowed, produces immediate effect.
[From *Bencao Gangmu*] Treating a fetus dead in the uterus that cannot be expelled. Use one liang of Chensha (Cinnabaris, 辰砂 - Cinnabar), boil in water for several boils, grind into powder, then take with wine for immediate expulsion.
[From *Waike Zhengzong*] Treating a fetus dead in the uterus. Two liang of Zhenzhu (Margarita, 真珠 - Pearl), ground into powder, mixed with wine, taken completely for immediate expulsion.
[Quoted Source] Treating fetal death at three to five months of pregnancy, remaining in the uterus and not being expelled.
Da Fu Zi (Arecae Semen, 大腹子), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 赤芍药), Yu Bai Pi (Ulmus Cortex, 榆白皮) (each three liang); Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 当归) (one liang, stir-fried); Huashi Mo (Talcum, 滑石末) (seven qian); Qumai (Dianthi Herba, 瞿麦), Kuizi (Abutili Semen, 葵子 - Winter Melon Seed/Fenugreek? Context implies Abutili or Malvae, usually Abutili in this context), Fuling (Poria, 茯苓), Fen Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle, 粉草 - Prepared Licorice), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩) (each half a liang).
Grind all into coarse powder. Each dose is four qian, decocted in water.
[From *Qianjin Yaofang*] Fetus dead in the uterus. Abutili Semen powder, taken with wine, one fang cun bi (a measure approx. 1 cubic inch). If the mouth is clenched shut, pry it open and pour the medicine in; once the medicine enters, [the fetus is expelled]. For treating fetal death in the uterus during pregnancy, or when the mother is ill and wishes to expel the fetus. Yu Bai Pi (Ulmus Cortex), decocted juice, take two sheng.
[From *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*] Treating a fetus dead in the uterus, or partially born but not fully expelled, or partially lodged against the spine, difficult to deliver in rural settings, with Qi and Blood rushing up disturbing the maternal heart, pale complexion, and failing Qi.
Zhi Zhu (Suet Porcinum, 猪脂 - Pig Fat) (one sheng); Bai Mi (Mel, 白蜜 - White Honey) (one sheng); Chun Jiu (Pure Wine, 醇酒) (two sheng).
Combine the above three ingredients, decoct together, reduce to two sheng, divide into two warm doses. If unable to drink wine, take according to tolerance.
[From *Shiyi Defang*] Treating difficult labor, fetal death in the uterus, retention of placenta (Baoyi), critical situation at childbirth, excellent efficacy.
She Tui (Ophichthus Corium, 蛇蜕 - Snake Slough) (one piece, whole, burnt on sesame oil lamp, ground); She Xiang (Moschus, 麝香 - Musk) (small amount).
Grind into powder, mix with half a cup of urine from an uncircumcised boy and half a cup of wine, take one dose for immediate delivery, effective.
[From Yang Shi's Formulas] Treating pregnancy before full term, fetus dead in the uterus, mother nearly fainting from suffocation. Take three sheng of Da Dou (Sojae Semen, 大豆 - Soybean), boil in vinegar, obtain three sheng of thick juice, take in one dose, immediate recovery.
[From *Bencao Gangmu*] Treating febrile disease during pregnancy with fetal death in the uterus. One liang of Lu Jiao Xie (Cornu Cervi Deglutinum, 鹿角屑 - Deer Antler Shavings), one sheng of water, five stems of Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, 葱 - Green Onion), half he of Dou Chi (Sojae Semen Preparatum, 豆豉 - Fermented Soybean), decoct together until six parts remain, remove dregs, take warm in two doses.
[From *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*] Method for extracting dead fetus. One Wu Ji (Gallus Domesticus, 乌鸡 - Black-bone Chicken), tail removed, finely chopped, decocted in three sheng of water to yield two sheng. Remove chicken, apply directly with hand using cloth soaked in the liquid to massage below the umbilicus; the fetus will naturally be expelled.
