This is a reverse syndrome. When the Shaoyin meridian qi terminates, the face turns black, the teeth appear elongated and covered with tartar, the abdomen becomes distended and closed, the upper and lower parts fail to communicate, and death ensues. When the Taiyin meridian qi terminates, the abdomen becomes distended and closed, breathing becomes difficult, there is frequent belching and vomiting; vomiting causes qi to rebel upwards, rebellion of qi causes the face to turn red; if qi does not rebel, the upper and lower parts fail to communicate, failure of communication causes the face to turn black, the skin and hair become dry and scorched, and death ensues.
This refers to distension and fullness below the navel. If fullness begins below the navel and gradually extends to fullness above the navel, this same method should be used.
[Wu] Zeqi Tang (Ze Qi Decoction): Treats Shishui (Stone Water). Symptoms include emaciated limbs, abdominal swelling, absence of asthma, and a deep pulse.
Ingredients: Zeqi (Euphorbiae Lathyridis Herba, washed to remove fishy odor, 5 liang), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, 4 liang), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, washed and soaked, 4 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 4 liang), Fuling (Poria, 4 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 4 liang), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 5 qian per dose, add 3 zhen of water and 1 he of black beans, boil down to 2 zhen, then add the herbs and boil down to 0.7 zhen. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach, three times daily.
[Shengji Zonglu] A formula for treating hard abdominal distension, called Shishui (Stone Water) Fang. Use 10 liang of Baishiying (Quartz), crushed to the size of soybeans, placed in an earthenware jar. Soak in 3 dou of good wine. Seal the jar mouth heavily with mud. Burn with horse manure and bran, keeping the wine simmering gently from Mao hour (5-7 AM) to Wu hour (11 AM-1 PM), then stop heating. The next day, drink one zhong zhen warm, up to three times a day. If accustomed to less alcohol, drink according to preference. The quartz may be roasted again once.
[Suwen] Yin and Yang pathogenic factors knot together; when Yin is excessive and Yang is deficient, it is called Shishui (Stone Water), presenting with distension of the Shaofu (lower abdomen). If both the Kidney and Liver pulses are deep, it indicates Shishui (Stone Water). (From Daqi Lun)
[Lingshu] A slightly large Kidney pulse indicates Shishui (Stone Water). The condition starts from below the navel to the lower abdomen, feeling swollen and uncomfortable, extending upwards to the epigastrium; this is a fatal and untreatable condition. Changtan (Intestinal Polyp/Tumor): Cold qi lodges outside the intestines, contending with Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). Qi fails to nourish, becoming bound, leading to internal fixation of masses. Evil qi arises, and polyps grow. Initially, they are the size of a chicken egg, gradually enlarging until resembling pregnancy. After more than a year, they feel firm upon pressure but movable upon pushing. Menstruation occurs on time; this is its characteristic sign.
[Luo Tianyi] Lu Wan (Dew Pill): Treats cold injuring the interior, causing Qi stagnation and lack of flow, knotting outside the intestines. Over time, it forms Jia (masses), causing intermittent pain and inability to extend the waist.
Ingredients: Jingsanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, 1 liang, soaked in wine), Guangzhu (Curcumae Rhizoma, 1 liang, soaked in wine), Ganxi (Dryopteridis Criniti Rhizoma cum Stipite, 5 qian, washed to remove odor, stir-fried until smoke ceases), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, 3 qian, salt-stir-fried), Sha (Borax, 4 qian, separately ground), Qingfen (Calomelas, 1 qian, separately ground), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix, 0.5 liang, processed, peel and umbilicus removed), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, 3 qian, white pith removed), Xionghuang (Realgar, 3 qian, separately ground), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama, 1 qian, processed), Shexiang (Moschus, 0.5 fen, separately ground), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 30 seeds, peel removed, stir-fried with Guangzhu and Sanleng until dark yellow, discard Badou).
Preparation and Administration: Except for the four ingredients separately ground, grind the rest into fine powder and mix evenly. Use fresh ginger juice to make a paste for pills, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 20-30 pills per dose, delivered with warm ginger soup; warm wine is also acceptable. Take before meals.
[Wu] Wuhui Wan (Wuhui Pill): Treats Changtan (Intestinal Polyp/Tumor) and also treats Ru Yu (residual breast conditions).
Ingredients: Wuhui (Aconiti Radix lateralis preparata, processed, peel and tip removed, 1 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed in hot water, 4 qian), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, dosage unspecified in text), Lilü (Veratri Rhizoma, stir-fried), Mumeng (Uncertain herb, possibly referring to a specific root or bark, contextually grouped with others), Fuling (Poria, wine-soaked), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 qian), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, processed, 1 qian), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 7 seeds, pounded into paste).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all into powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 3-5 pills after meals, delivered with wine as desired. Also treats male hernia diseases.
The Classic states: Shijia (Blood Jia/Mass) originates in the Baozhong (uterus). Cold qi lodges in the Zimen (os uteri), closing it so Qi cannot flow freely. Evil blood should be discharged but remains stagnant, growing larger day by day, resembling pregnancy, with menstruation failing to occur on time. These conditions occur only in women and can be treated by guiding and purging downwards.
[Shengji Zonglu] Jian Dan (See Pill): Treats cold lodging in the Lower Jiao, causing Blood and Qi obstruction forming Jia (masses), which are hollow and large and will not resolve.
Ingredients: Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, processed, peel and umbilicus removed, 4 qian), Guijianyu (Sambuci Ramulus, 3 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 qian), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 qian), Yuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 2 qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 2 qian), Zi Shiy ing (Hematitum, 1 qian), Binglang (Arecae Semen, 2.5 qian), Xuexie (Draco Sanguis, 1.5 qian, separately ground), Shuizhi (Hirudo, stir-fried, 1.5 qian, smoke ceases), Taoren (Persicae Semen, soaked in hot water, peeled, stir-fried until yellow, 30 seeds), Jingsanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, sliced, 5 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, sliced, 2 qian, soaked overnight in wine with Jingsanleng, dried).
Preparation and Administration: Except for Xuexie and Taoren, grind the rest into fine powder and mix evenly. Use the original soaking wine to make a paste for pills, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills per dose, delivered with warm vinegar soup; warm wine is also acceptable. Take before meals.
[Wu] Shiy ing San (Shiy ing Powder): Treats women with Blood knotting at the Baomen (door of the uterus), or forming Jia (masses). The Jia is located between the abdomen and hypochondrium, causing heart and abdominal distension, fullness, swelling, and urgency, resembling Shishui (Stone Water), commonly known as Xuegu (Blood Gu).
Ingredients: Zi Shiy ing (Hematitum, 1 liang), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, tail end, 5 qian), Mabiancao (Verbena Officinalis Herba, 5 qian), Honghua (Carthami Flos, stir-fried, 0.5 liang), Wumei Rou (Mume Fructus pulp, 5 qian), Pengzhu (Curcumae Rhizoma, processed), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, processed), Sumu Jie (Sappan Lignum node, 1 qian implied by list structure though not explicitly quantified in snippet, usually grouped), Moyao (Myrrha, 1 qian), Hupo (Amber, ground, 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian). *Note: Text lists "Su Mu Jie, Moyao, Hupo... each 1 qian" implies Su Mu Jie is 1 qian.*
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Mix with strong decoction of Sappan wood wine, take 2 qian; if non-drinker, use ginger soup.
[Mai Jing] Question: What is meant by Blood Fen (Share) and Water Fen (Share)? Master says: If menstruation stops first, followed by edema disease, it is called Blood Fen; this is difficult to treat. If edema disease occurs first, followed by cessation of menstruation, it is called Water Fen; this is easy to treat. Why? Because removing the water allows menstruation to resume naturally. (Water Fen is equivalent to Qi Fen).
[Zhang Zhongjing] At the Cun Kou (Radial artery), if the pulse is deep and slow: Deep indicates Water, Slow indicates Cold. Cold and Water contend, causing the Fu Yang pulse to vanish. Inability to digest food and fluids indicates Spleen Qi deficiency leading to loose stools; Stomach Qi deficiency leads to body swelling. Low Shangyang pulse and thin Shaoyin pulse indicate that men suffer from difficult urination, while women suffer from amenorrhea. Menstrual blood is Blood; if Blood circulation is impaired, it transforms into Water, called Blood Fen.
Master says: At the Cun Kou, if the pulse is deep and rapid: Rapid indicates outward movement, Deep indicates inward penetration. Outward indicates Yang Excess, Inward indicates Yin Knotting. A slight and wiry Fu Yang pulse indicates lack of Stomach Qi (slight) and inability to breathe/wheeze (wiry). A deep and slippery Shaoyin pulse indicates pathology in the interior (deep) and Excess (slippery). Contention of deep and slippery pulses indicates Blood knotting at the Baomen (uterine door). If the mass is not discharged and meridians are blocked, it is called Blood Fen.
[Zhang Zhongjing] Dahuang Gansui Tang (Rhubarb and Kansui Decoction): Treats women with lower abdominal fullness, bulging like a Dun (ancient vessel), with slight difficulty in urination but no thirst. This indicates Water and Blood jointly knotting in the Blood Chamber (Uterus).
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang, steamed), Gansui (Kansui Radix, processed), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, stir-fried. Each 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Cut into pieces. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1 zhen of water, boil to 0.7 zhen. Strain and take warm. The blood should be discharged.
[Wan Bing Wan] Treats virgins with amenorrhea, hardness and knotting below the navel, large as a cup or measuring vessel, alternating fever and chills, dysentery, emaciation. This is Xuejia (Blood Jia). If internal Jia forms, it is incurable.
Ingredients: Ganxi (Dryopteridis Criniti Rhizoma cum Stipite, pounded and stir-fried until smoke emerges for a long time), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, soaked in wine overnight, 1 liang 6 qian), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 4 liang 8 qian, juice extracted).
Preparation and Administration: Add the other two ingredients' powders to the Rehmannia juice. Simmer over low heat until ready to pill, sizing like paulownia seeds. Take one pill on an empty stomach with rice drink or warm wine, twice daily. Do not arbitrarily increase dosage; stop medication when the disease is cured. Women with deficient Qi and Blood and amenorrhea should not take this.
[Lingshu] Lower abdominal fullness and enlargement, extending upwards to the stomach and heart, accompanied by shivering sensations and alternating chills and fever, with difficult urination. Treat by selecting Foot Jueyin meridian points. (From Zabing Pian)
[Jiayi Jing) For Shishui (Stone Water) with pain radiating to the hypochondrium and distension, vertigo, headache, and whole-body heat, Guan Yuan (CV4) is indicated. For rigors and large abdominal Shishui (Stone Water), Siman (KI14) is indicated. For Shishui (Stone Water), puncture Qichong (ST30). For Shishui (Stone Water), Zhangmen (LR13) and Ranggu (KI2) are indicated. Additionally, Tianquan (PC2) is indicated.
[Worldly Physicians] Characteristics of Changtan (Intestinal Polyp/Tumor): Internal fixation of evil qi, formation of polyps, initially the size of a chicken egg, growing larger daily, eventually resembling pregnancy, movable upon pushing. Points: Zhongji (CV3), Qichong (ST30), Tianshu (ST25), Wufu (likely a typo or obscure point, possibly referring to local points or specific needling techniques, text says 'Wufu').
Characteristics of Shijia (Blood Jia/Mass): Originates in the Baozhong (uterus), stagnant evil blood, growing larger daily like pregnancy. Points: Yinlingquan (SP9) to remove stagnant evil blood from the Baozhong. Fuliu (KI7) (Needle along the bone downwards, wait until the abdomen feels warm before withdrawing the needle.)
