Caused by the disturbance of phlegm (Tan, Phlegm). The term "Heart Palpitation" (Xin Dong) refers to a condition where the heart palpitates spontaneously without fear of fright. Fright is also called "Fear in the Heart" (Xin Zhong Kong), referring to being afraid of fright with the heart palpitating accordingly.
This spontaneous palpitation belongs to two meridians. One belongs to the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian disease. The classics state: When the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian moves, it causes severe palpitations in the heart, red face, yellow eyes, and incessant laughter; observing the excess or deficiency, heat or cold, if the pulse is sunken, acupuncture or moxibustion should be applied. This is the method of needling and moxibustion. It also states: When Taiyang governs the year, and Cold invades excessively, it causes severe heart palpitations and discomfort in the chest, hypochondrium, and epigastrium, treated with sweet and hot substances. This refers to Cold damaging the Pericardium due to climatic factors. The second belongs to Shaoyang disease. The classics state: When one Yang pathogen strikes, there is shortness of breath, frequent coughing, and belching; its transmission leads to Xin Che (pulling pain in the heart).
(Che, pronounced chi-zhi, means pulling or dragging.)
Anger, in terms of Yin and Yang, occurs when Yin obstructs Yang, preventing Yang from extending. The classics state: When Yin emerges into Yang, anger results. It also states: When Blood congregates above and Qi congregates below, it causes mental distress, grievance, and irritability. Li Dongyuan said: Those who are prone to anger have Wind-Heat sinking into the lower body. Anger is associated with the meridians of the Zang organs; in the Zang, it belongs to the Liver, and in the Emotions, it is Anger. It also states: The Liver stores Blood; when Blood is in excess, anger occurs. It also states: The Gallbladder is related to anger.

From the perspective of Five Movements and Six Qi, anger all belongs to excessive Wood. The classics state: Excessive Wood is called Fa Sheng (Initiating Growth). In the Ji of Fa Sheng, the disease manifests as anger. It also states: When the annual Wood Qi is excessive, Wind prevails, and severe cases lead to irritability. It also states: When the annual Earth Qi is insufficient, Wind acts excessively, and the people suffer from irritability. Regarding contraindications for anger, it often generates Jue Ni (Reversal Cold/Stroke-like conditions). The classics state: The Yang Qi of humans, if angered greatly, causes the form and Qi to sever, and Blood stagnates above, causing Bo Jue (severe fainting due to blood rushing up). It also states: Violent anger damages Yang. It also states: Anger causes Qi to rebel upwards; in severe cases, it leads to hematemesis and diarrhea with undigested food.
From the perspective of Five Movements and Six Qi, frequent sighing (Shan Tai Xi) all belongs to Dryness pathogen damaging the Gallbladder. The classics state: When Yangming is in the lower position, and Dryness prevails excessively, the disease manifests as frequent sighing. It also states: When Yangming Qi wins, there is sighing, bitter taste, and vomiting of sour/bitter fluids. It also states: When Shaoyin governs the year, the earth becomes dry, the climate is chilling and frequent, and the disease manifests as hypochondriac pain and frequent sighing.
In the *Neijing*, acupuncture and moxibustion for frequent sighing all select the Heart and Gallbladder meridians. The classics state: Yellow Emperor asked: What makes people sigh? Qibo answered: Thinking and sorrow make the Xin Mai (Heart vessel) tight; when the Heart vessel is tight, the Qi pathway is constrained; when constrained, it is not smooth, so one sighs to release it. Tonify the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian, Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, and Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian's Liu (retention/acupoints). It also states: Patients with Gallbladder disease sigh frequently, have a bitter taste, and vomit old fluid; observe the sunken areas of the Foot Shaoyang Meridian and apply moxibustion. It also states: When the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian moves, it causes bitter taste and frequent sighing; observe the excess, deficiency, heat, cold, and sunken pulse, and treat by selecting points.
*[Jia Yi Jing]* If the complexion is dark green/cyan, the patient sighs frequently as if dying, has chills and tremors, white urine, and difficult defecation, Zhongfeng (LR4) is the primary point. Spleen deficiency causes cold intolerance, unhappiness, and frequent sighing; Shangqiu (SP5) is the primary point. Generally, those who sigh frequently, lack appetite, suffer from alternating chills and fever with sweating, vomit easily upon onset of illness, and recover after vomiting, should have Gongsun (SP4) and Jing (Well) points selected. Excess patterns involve cutting pain in the intestines, reversal cold, swelling of the head and face, mental restlessness, polydipsia, and insomnia; deficiency patterns involve abdominal distension, fullness of Qi in the intestines, hot pain, loss of appetite, and cholera-like symptoms; Gongsun (SP4) is the primary point.
