[Shi] Liaoqiao San (Forsythia Powder): Treats pain caused by residual toxins from pediatric sores, rashes, boils, and smallpox/rubella; or lesions occurring on the head and face, accompanied by earache, redness of the cheeks, and ulceration.
Liaoqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Qumai (Dianthi Herba), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Huashi (Talcum), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each in equal parts].
Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhan of water, decoct until half a zhan remains. Adding fresh Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) is particularly beneficial.
[Dan] Douyong (Smallpox Carbuncle) is mostly caused by excess toxins and blood heat forming carbuncles. Medication should be administered differently based on upper or lower body locations, with no delay allowed for even a day. When pus forms, the primary treatment method must be Qingre Liangxue (Clearing Heat and Cooling Blood), using herbs such as Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Gancao Jie (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma with nodes), Liaoqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). For upper body lesions, use Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) as guiding herbs to ascend; for lower body lesions, use Binglang (Arecae Semen) and Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) as guiding herbs to descend. Additionally assist with Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus), Rendongcao (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), and Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus). If stool is dry, use Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma); if there is alternating chills and fever, use Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex). This method has proven effective repeatedly.
[Bao] Muxiang San (Aquilariae Powder): Treats post-smallpox carbuncles in children with miraculous effect.
Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama, roasted until yellow, 3.5 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, amount of "yi zi").
Grind the above into powder, take 2 qian with rice drink.
[Dan] External application medicine for Douyong (Smallpox Carbuncle): Use Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus), Nanting (Arisomatis Rhizoma), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Hanshuishi (Calcitum), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhuya Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus cum Spina), mixed with vinegar and applied to the affected area. Effective.
[Yang] When a child's Shen (Spirit/Mind) is guarded, Zhengqi (Upright Qi) becomes strong, and Xieqi (Evil Qi) cannot invade. If Zhengqi (Upright Qi) is weak, then Gui Du (Ghost Toxin) and E Qi (Malicious Qi) will strike. The presentation is sudden stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, severe distress, and a sensation of impending death.
In cases of Zhong'e (Striking Evil), where the abdomen is distended and full, if the pulse is tight, fine, and faint, life can be saved; if the pulse is large and floating, it indicates death. Immediately administer Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pills). If consciousness is not regained, insufflate Saojiao Mo (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Powder) into the nose to induce sneezing, then administer Chenxiang Jiangqi Tang (Aquilariae Decoction for Descending Qi) added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Fuling (Poria), which also wards off evil. Ke Wu (Guest Malevolence) is also suitable for this formula.
Xiangzhenxiang (Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae), Baijiaoxiang (Resina Agathae), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Hu Jinggu (Homo Tibia, roasted with butter), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Guijiancao (Artemisiae Argyi Herba), Caolongdan (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) [each 5 qian].
Grind the above into powder, then add Xionghuang (Realgar, 5 qian) and Shexiang (Moschus, 1 qian). Form pills with refined honey, dissolve in Xiangru Tang (Frankincense Decoction) before taking. It is also excellent for the child to wear the pill or burn it in the sleeping quarters.
[Guang] To treat Zhong'e (Striking Evil) and Ke Wu (Guest Malevolence), chew 1 qian of Shexiang (Moschus) in the mouth until dissolved, grind finely again, mix with 2 he of vinegar, and ingest. Recovery follows immediately.
[Hai] Longnao Gao (Borneol Ointment): Treats pediatric fever located in the Xin Wei (Heart and Stomach), causing sudden unconsciousness. (Formula found in the section on Smallpox Black Depression, i.e., the formula from *Liuren*.)
[Tang] In cases of Zhongshu (Heatstroke) leading to fainting, urgently move the patient to a cool, shady place. Cold drinks must be strictly avoided; ingestion of cold leads to death. One should use tonifying medicines and hot compresses on the umbilicus and abdomen. Warmth brings recovery. If hot water is unavailable, scoop up hot earth and place it over the umbilicus, make a small depression in it, and pour urine into it to substitute for hot water. After prolonged warming, chew a large piece of Da Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), swallow with water, and subsequently administer Jieshu Yao (Heatstroke-resolving medicine).
[Jia] For children with a fishy odor in the mouth and Qi Man (Qi Fullness/Stagnation) in the hypochondrium and diaphragm, the main acupoint is Laogong (PC 8).
