[Danxi] To treat itching in the lower part of children caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), take a handful of *Phragmites communis* leaf blades (Bian Zhu Ye), cut them, decoct with one sheng of water until reduced to five he, remove the dregs, and drink on an empty stomach. The worms will be expelled. It is also excellent to cook porridge with this decoction. (From *Xin Jing*)
To treat itching in the lower part caused by worms resembling snails, take a handful of *Phragmites communis* leaf blades (Bian Zhu Ye), add two sheng of water, and boil thoroughly. For a five-year-old child, administer five he on an empty stomach; fast the previous night and eat the next morning for better results. (From Yang Shi's *Chan Lu*)
[Danxi] Infant fontanelle non-closure (Jie Lu) is due to the mother's deficiency of Qi and Blood combined with excess Heat. Use Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) and Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). If there is Heat, add Rhizoma Coptidis (Huang Lian) stir-fried with wine and Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao) raw, decoct and administer. Externally, bind the head tightly with cotton cloth and apply powder of Radix Akebiae (Bai Lian).
[Tian] The treatment method for Jie Lu should use Sheng Di San.
[Qian] Jie Lu refers to the condition where the fontanelle fails to close after birth, which is due to incomplete development of Kidney Qi. Such children will likely speak little and laugh less when grown. If accompanied by excessive white sclera, pallor, and emaciation, they tend to be melancholic rather than joyful.
[Tang] Jie Lu is characterized by a large fontanelle and open cranial sutures as if separated, hence the name. This is also due to incomplete Kidney Qi. The Kidney governs bone marrow, and the brain is the sea of marrow. When Kidney Qi is insufficient, brain marrow is deficient, thus preventing closure. Those who suffer from this condition generally do not survive beyond a thousand days, though some may live for several years, eventually becoming invalid. A person without brain marrow is like a tree without roots. Although ancients had effective prescriptions, I do not record them because the effort yields no result. One should not wait passively for death; instead, follow Qian’s method of tonifying the Kidney, hoping for a chance of survival. (The formula for Bu Shen Di Huang Wan can be found in the section on Consumption.)
[Qian] Tian Nan Xing San: Treats open cranial sutures that fail to close and nasal congestion. Take large Rhizoma Arisaematis (Tian Nan Xing), soak slightly, peel, and grind into fine powder. Mix with rice vinegar, spread on crimson silk, apply to the fontanelle, and frequently warm-press with hands for immediate effect.
[Anonymous] San Xin San: Treats cases where pediatric bones should fuse but do not, resulting in open skull sutures, named Jie Lu.
Ingredients: Radix Asari (Xi Xin), Cortex Cinnamomi (Gui Xin) (each 0.5 liang); Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Gan Jiang) (0.75 liang).
Grind the above into powder, mix with ginger juice, apply to the cranium and secure. Recovery occurs when the child's face turns red.
Another prescription: Charitate Ophichus Skin (She Tui) until blackened, grind into powder, mix with medulla from the pig's mandible, and apply to the top of the head three to four times daily. Someone once wrapped the head with a turban for protection, and it healed naturally over time, which is also a good method.
[Ming Yi Zhi Zhang] Fontanelle non-closure: Moxibustion at 0.5 cun above and below the umbilicus (two acupoints, each moxibusted with three cones; the fontanelle closes before the moxa blisters erupt).
[Popular Tradition] Insufficiency of the father's essence leads to Jie Lu and excessive white sclera.
