[Qian Yi] After birth, if blood-wind invades the spine of an infant and flows into the bone marrow, it results in torticollis deformity resembling a turtle's back (Guibei). The treatment involves applying turtle urine to rub the sternum. To obtain turtle urine: place a lotus leaf as a base, put the turtle on top, then shine a mirror upon it; its urine will naturally excrete.
[Taiping Shenghui Fang] Infantile torticollis deformity (Guibei) is caused by allowing the child to sit too early, permitting pathogenic wind to enter the spinal column and penetrate the bone marrow, causing the back to protrude like a turtle shell. Although medicinal formulas exist, they often fail to cure chronic conditions; moxibustion is the primary treatment. One should apply moxa to Feishu (BL13, Lung Shu), located one and a half cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra; Xinshu (BL15, Heart Shu), located one and a half cun lateral to the lower border of the fifth thoracic vertebra; and Geshu (BL17, Diaphragm Shu), located one and a half cun lateral to the lower border of the seventh thoracic vertebra. Using the middle joint of the child's middle finger as one cun, use moxa cones the size of a wheat grain, applying three to five moxa cones per acupoint, then stop. This method has been used repeatedly; only one or two out of ten cases show efficacy, and complete cure is rare.
[Chen Ziming] If torticollis deformity (Guibei) is not treated within the first hundred days after birth, the prognosis is poor.
[Tang] Treatment for large intestine deficiency leading to rectal prolapse (Tuogang):
Longgu (Fossil Bones), Hezi (Areca Seed, roasted and pitted, 1 liang each), Moshizi (Galla Chinensis, 2 large pieces), Ying Susuo (Pericarpium Papaveris, pitted, coated with vinegar and roasted, 2 qian).
Grind the above into fine powder. Take orally mixed with warm water. Simultaneously, fumigate and wash the area with scallion water until soft, then gently push it back manually. Take a piece of new brick tile, heat it red-hot, pour vinegar on it. When the steam rises, immediately press several layers of old cloth over it to allow the heat to penetrate upwards, ensuring it is not too hot. Have the patient sit on the cloth; if it feels too hot, gradually reduce the layers. Maintain a comfortable warmth. Continue taking the aforementioned internal medicine regularly.
[Zhang Congzheng/Jie Gu] Wubeizi San (Five-Gall Nut Powder) treats infantile rectal prolapse (Tuogang).
Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), Diyü (Sanguisorbae Radix) in equal parts.
Grind into fine powder. Take half a qian or one qian per dose, mixed with rice water on an empty stomach.
[Qian Yi] Chishizhi San (Red Halloysite Powder) treats rectal prolapse in infants caused by straining during dysentery, where the anus protrudes and cannot retract. ("Nü" means straining the abdomen with force.)
Zhen Chishizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Fulonggan (Caulis Longan / Dragon's Liver Earth) in equal parts.
Grind into fine powder. Apply 5 fen to the anal head frequently, pressing it back in.
[Chen Ziming] For treating infantile rectal prolapse (Tuogang): Use Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) ground into powder, sprinkle appropriately on the affected area, and manually push it back using a hand pad. Strictly avoid consuming foods that trigger wind-toxicity.
[Tian] Method for treating rectal prolapse (Tuogang): Use 1 liang of Puhuang (Lygodii Spora) and 2 liang of pig fat. Refine the pig fat and mix with Puhuang to form a paste. Apply to the protruding bowel end, which will retract immediately.
[Wu] Shuisheng San treats infantile rectal prolapse that fails to retract.
Use sufficient amount of Fuping (Moslae Herba), pound into fine powder, and apply dry powder directly to the affected area.
[Zhu Danxi] For rectal prolapse (Tuogang): Use old wall soil from the northeast direction, soak in hot water. First wash the lower part, then fumigate the upper part. (Another formula is found under the "Scrotal Hernia" section.)
[Tian] For infantile rectal prolapse with bloody diarrhea that persists late in autumn: Apply one moxa cone to Weitui (GV13, Tailbone End), cone size like a wheat grain. Weiyi refers to the prominent bone at the end of the spine. For infantile rectal prolapse: Apply three moxa cones to Qihai (CV8, Center of Umbilicus). For infantile rectal prolapse that is chronic, as well as for wind-phlegm epilepsy, stroke causing opisthotonos, excessive crying, incoherent speech, irregular attacks, or severe frothing at the mouth: Apply seven moxa cones to Baihui (GV20). Baihui is located five cun straight up from the nose into the hairline, in the center of the vertex where the hair whorl is, space enough to hold a bean. Cone size like a wheat grain.
[Mingyi Zhizhang] Treatment for rectal prolapse (Tuogang) resulting from chronic dysentery. (See Dysentery Section.)
