[Suwen] The Emperor said: I wish to hear about the symptoms and pathology of Jue syndromes of the six channels. Qibo said: Jue syndrome of the Greater Yang channel causes swelling of the head and heaviness, inability to walk the feet, leading to collapse. Jue syndrome of the Yangming channel causes manic disorder wanting to run and call, abdominal fullness preventing lying down, red face and heat, hallucinations and delirious speech. Jue syndrome of the Shaoyang channel causes sudden deafness, swollen and hot cheeks, hypochondriac pain, and difficulty moving the body. (Jiayi Jing says: For Jue syndrome with cold extremities, wheezing, and chest fullness, Linqi [GB15] governs it.) Jue syndrome of the Taiyin channel causes abdominal fullness and distension, difficult defecation, lack of appetite, vomiting after eating, and inability to lie down. Jue syndrome of the Shaoyin channel causes dry mouth, red urine, abdominal fullness, and heart pain. Jue syndrome of the Jueyin channel causes swelling and pain in the lower abdomen, abdominal distension, difficulty in urination and defecation, preference for lying down with knees flexed, contraction and swelling of the genitals, internal heat. Severe cases require draining; deficient cases require tonifying; neither excessive nor deficient cases require taking from the affected channel. Taiyin Jue-ni (rebellious qi) causes muscle cramps and spasms, heart pain radiating to the abdomen; treat the primary diseased channel. (Wang Bing notes: Observe which channel has excess, and disperse/take from it, hence saying 'treat the primary diseased channel'.) Shaoyin Jue-ni causes false fullness, vomiting and changes, clear diarrhea below; treat the primary diseased channel. Jueyin Jue-ni causes muscle cramps, lower back pain, false fullness, anterior closure with delirious speech; treat the primary diseased channel. Yangming Jue-ni causes wheezing, coughing, body heat, easy fright, nosebleeds, and vomiting blood. Hand-Taiyin Jue-ni causes false fullness and coughing, frequent vomiting of froth; treat the primary diseased channel. Hand-Jueyin and Hand-Shaoyin Jue-ni cause heart pain radiating to the throat, body heat; this is a fatal and incurable condition. Hand-Taiyang Jue-ni causes deafness, tearing, inability to look back the neck, inability to bend and extend the waist; treat the primary diseased channel. Hand-Yangming and Hand-Shaoyang Jue-ni cause throat obstruction (Houbi), throat swelling...; treat the primary diseased channel. (From "Treatise on Jue")
