[Prescription Verse] Luan'e (Tonsillitis) is caused by wind and fire in the Lung Meridian; bilateral cases are mild, unilateral cases are severe, appearing on both sides of the throat. Its shape resembles a silkworm moth, accompanied by redness, swelling, and pain. Cases occurring anterior to the Fauces (Guanqian) are easy to treat, while those posterior to the Fauces (Guanhou) are ominous.
[Annotation] This condition arises from accumulated heat in the Lung Meridian combined with congealing wind pathogen. It grows beside the pharynx, resembling a silkworm moth, or sometimes like a jujube or chestnut, presenting with redness, swelling, and pain. It may be unilateral or bilateral; bilateral cases are mild, while unilateral cases are severe. Those located anterior to the Fauces (Guanqian) have visible morphology, allowing medicaments to reach easily and techniques to be applied readily, thus making them easy to treat. Those located posterior to the Fauces (Guanhou) have obscured morphology, preventing medicament access and difficult technique application, thus making them hard to treat. Both types should take Qingyan Lige Tang (Clearing the Throat and Benefiting the Diaphragm Decoction) and apply Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder). For visible cases where pus has matured, puncture with a needle; for invisible cases, use a chicken feather to induce vomiting to expel pus and blood. If accompanied by excessive phlegm, rapid breathing, and hoarseness, and vomiting induction fails, it is a critical condition. Urgently prick the Shaoshang acupoint (LU11) with a three-edged needle to release dark purple-black blood, then continue applying and taking the aforementioned medicines for gradual recovery.
Another prescription: Qingyan Lige Tang (see Jin Hou Feng section); Bingpeng San (see Kou Bu E Kou Chuang section).
[Prescription Verse] Houliu (Pharyngeal Tumor) belongs to stagnant heat in the Lung Meridian, formed additionally by qi damage from excessive speech. Its shape resembles a longan nut wrapped in red filaments, appearing singly or doubly on either side of the throat.

Its shape resembles a longan nut, wrapped in red filaments, appearing singly or doubly beside the pharynx. Some have a large base and small stalk; they do not hurt when untouched, but if provoked by strong wine, roasted/spicy foods, or anger/shouting, they become painful. Avoid using needles or knives; instead, take Yiqi Qingjin Tang (Tonifying Qi and Clearing Metal Decoction) to resolve the tumor, and apply Biyu San (Jade Green Powder) locally for immediate effect.
