[Formula Song] The Shang'e Carbuncle (carbuncle on the hard palate) resembles a grape, formed by accumulated heat in the Shaoyin and Sanjiao meridians. The tongue is difficult to extend or retract, red nasal discharge occurs, mouth opening and closing are impaired, and chills and fever increase.
[Note] This condition is also known as Xuan Yong (hanging carbuncle), occurring on the upper palate in the mouth. It is caused by accumulated heat in the Heart, Kidney, and Sanjiao meridians. Its shape resembles a purple grape; the tongue is difficult to move, the mouth cannot open or close easily, red nasal discharge frequently appears, and severe chills and fever ensue. It is appropriate to administer Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification) with Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) and Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root), and simultaneously apply Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder). If the swelling becomes hard and hangs down without ulcerating after a long time, use Shaoyan San (Burnt Salt Powder) applied three to five times daily, along with Shegan Wan (Belamcanda Pill). If treatment is delayed, leading to inability to eat, restlessness, and confusion, it is considered a adverse prognosis (Ni syndrome).
Formula: Shaoyan San (Burnt Salt Powder)
Composition: Yan Shi (Halitum, burnt) and Ku Bai Fan (Alumen Exsiccatum) in equal parts.
Grind the two ingredients into fine powder. Dip the tip of a chopstick into the powder and apply it to the affected area.
[Formula Song] Shaoyan San treats Shang'e Carbuncle, hanging like a purple grape. Equal parts of Alumen and burnt salt ground to powder, applied with a chopstick tip to dissipate heat obstruction.
Another Formula: Shegan Wan (Belamcanda Pill)
Composition: Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Chuan Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed, peeled and core removed, stir-fried with bran), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, each 5 fen), Mubiezi (Strychni Semen), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried, each 2 qian).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of small marbles. Take one pill at a time, hold in the mouth to dissolve slowly, and swallow.
[Formula Song] Shegan Wan treats Xuan Yong, where heat accumulation makes mouth opening difficult. Rheum, Cimicifuga, Strychnos, and Apricot seed, honey-pilled like marbles held in the mouth.
Another Formula: Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification) (See "Huiju Ju" under Head section)
Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder) (See "Ekou Chuang" under Mouth section)
[Formula Song] Suohou Du (Throat-locking Toxin) arises from accumulated heat and external contraction of Wind-Cold, forming a nodule in front of the ear. Externally resembling Luoli (scrofula), it gradually attacks the throat. The pathology involves the Heart and Small Intestine, specifically the Tinghui acupoint.
[Note] This condition is caused by accumulated heat in the Heart and Small Intestine combined with external contraction of Wind-Cold, leading to coagulation. It initially appears at the Tinghui acupoint in front of the ear, resembling scrofula, and gradually advances to the throat, causing swelling, blockage, pain, and difficulty in eating. This condition requires rapid treatment. It is appropriate to administer Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Calculus Bovis Clear Heart Pill) to open the orifices and clear heat, along with Qingyan Lige Tang (Throat-Clearing and Diaphragm-Relieving Decoction), and apply Bingpeng San. If the prescription takes effect, success can be achieved.
Formula: Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Calculus Bovis Clear Heart Pill)
Composition: Jiuzhuan Dansheng (Calculus Bovitis Preparatus, 1 liang), Xionghuang (Realgar), Huanglian Mo (Coptidis Rhizoma powder, each 2 qian), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Tianzhuhuang (Calamus Tuber), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis, powdered), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Xijiao Mo (Rhino Horn powder), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, each 1 qian), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), Shexiang (Moschus), Zhenzhu (Margarita, boiled in tofu, each 5 fen), Jing Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), Qingfen (Calomelas, each 3 fen).
Grind each ingredient into extremely fine powder. Mix thoroughly and grind again until uniform. Use Glycyrrhizae decoction paste to bind into pills the size of longan fruits. Coat with Cinnabar, dry in the sun, store in porcelain bottles, seal tightly to prevent air leakage. When needed, take one pill, grind with Mint Decoction, and administer.
[Formula Song] Niuhuang Qingxin treats Throat-locking Toxin. Poria, Calomelas, Borneol, Musk, Scrophularia, Realgar, Calamus, Pearl, Galla, Schizonepeta, Saposhnikovia, Platycodon, Calculus Bovis. Rhinoceros horn, Angelica, Coptis quickly reduce heat.
Another Formula: Qingyan Lige Tang (Throat-Clearing and Diaphragm-Relieving Decoction) (See "Jin Hou Feng" under Tight Throat Wind section)
Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder) (See "Ekou Chuang" under Mouth section)
