[Prescription Verse] For treating carbuncles (Hong Ju), back carbuncles (Fa Bei), hemorrhoidal fistulas (Zhi Lou), and various sores, the Niu Xi steaming method is most appropriate. Boil ox-hide glue (Niu Jiao) until thick, spread it on paper, and apply to the affected area. Then, use soft cloth boiled in vinegar to cover the glue paper while hot for steaming therapy, which yields good results. This method is suitable for warm-toxic sores with itching and complete pus discharge; washing can be done using glue paper combined with Guanzhong Decoction.
[Annotation] For carbuncles, back carbuncles, hemorrhoidal fistulas, malignant sores, Lian sores (sores occurring on the side of the neck or armpit), and chronic sores that are difficult to heal and close, take a piece of ox-hide glue (Niu Jiao), boil it with water to the proper consistency, spread it on thick paper, and cut off pieces to apply to the sore opening. Next, boil two pieces of soft cloth in strong vinegar, place them over the glue paper while hot for steaming therapy, replace when slightly cool, and continue until the sore itches and all pus is discharged. Prepare two liang of Cyperus rotundus (Guan Zhong), decoct in water, wash with hot liquid, remove the glue paper, and apply external plaster externally. The next day, repeat the steaming and washing as before, until all pus is discharged and the sore dries up.
[Prescription Verse] If the carbuncle belongs to Yin syndrome (Yin Zheng), around half a month into the course, the sore does not rise or ulcerate, becoming hard and firm like stone, with toxic pus stagnating, causing restlessness. In such cases, extraction should be prioritized. Use a Pi needle (Bing Zhen) to make three punctures in a "pin" character pattern on the top of the sore. Fresh red pus indicates a favorable condition (Shun Zheng), whereas purple-black pus is difficult to treat.
[Annotation] For carbuncles of Yin syndrome, around fifteen days after onset, the sore fails to rise, pus is deep and cannot ulcerate outwardly, the lesion is hard and heavy like carrying a stone, and toxic pus internally erodes healthy tissue, causing restlessness. It is advisable to first use the medicinal bamboo tube extraction method (Yao Tong Ba Fa) to provide an outlet for toxic pus. Pre-boil a bamboo tube in medicinal liquid. Then, use a Pi needle (Bing Zhen) to make three punctures in a "pin" character pattern within one cun inside the top of the sore, at a depth of one cun or half a cun, depending on the height of the sore. Place the bamboo tube over the puncture while hot to extract pus and blood. Red and bright yellow pus indicates a favorable condition (Shun Zheng) and is easy to treat; purple-black pus indicates a deteriorating condition (Bai Zheng) and is difficult to treat.
Formula: Bamboo Tube Boiling Formula
Composition: Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qiang Huo), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Du Huo), Perillae Folium (Zi Su), Artemisia argyi (Qi Ai), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Chang Pu), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Bai Zhi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao) (each 5 qian), Scallion with roots (Lian Xu Cong) (2 liang).
Usage: Use ten bowls of water, boil several times, and set aside. Take a section of fresh young bamboo, seven cun long, with a diameter of one and a half cun, keeping one end with the node. Scrape off the green skin, leaving a thickness of about one fen. Drill a small hole near the node and plug it with a fir wood strip. Place it in the previously prepared medicinal liquid and boil dozens of times. Place the pot containing the medicinal liquid near the patient's bed. Remove the bamboo tube, pour out the liquid, and immediately press it hot onto the needle puncture at the top of the sore, pressing firmly so it adheres naturally. After a short while, when the bamboo tube warms up, remove the fir wood plug; the tube will detach easily. Cover with external plaster and avoid wind exposure. If pus and blood are not fully discharged, boil the tube again the next day and extract from the same holes. This is an excellent method for extracting pus from Yin sores without causing pain; do not neglect it. For Yang sores (Yang Chuang), this method is unnecessary as it may damage Qi and Blood; exercise caution.
[Prescription Verse] Medicinal liquid-boiled bamboo tubes have miraculous effects, allowing sore pus to discharge without pain. The formula includes Chang Pu, Zi Su, Qiang Huo, Du Huo, Ai Ye, Bai Zhi, Gan Cao, whole scallions with roots, and bamboo tubes, decocted in water to discharge pus.
