[Formula Song] Jiu Zao Bi (Rosacea-like rhinophyma) arises on the nasal tip and alae; its pathogenesis involves Stomach Fire steaming the Lungs combined with external Cold constraint. Initially, blood stasis manifests as redness; over time, it turns purple-black. Treatment should focus on dispersing Qi stagnation and activating blood to resolve stasis, leading to gradual recovery.
[Annotation] This condition occurs on the nasal tip and both sides of the nose. It is caused by Stomach Fire steaming the Lungs, exacerbated by external Cold binding the exterior, resulting in blood stasis and coagulation. Thus, it presents initially as red, then purple, and eventually black if prolonged, making it particularly persistent and difficult to cure. The treatment should aim to diffuse Lung Qi stagnation and transform stagnant blood. Formulas such as Mahuang Xuanfei Jiu (Ephedra Decoction for Diffusing Lung Qi) and Liangxue Siwu Tang (Cooling Blood Four Substances Decoction) may be selected to promote the circulation of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, thereby nourishing new blood. Additionally, Diandao San (Inverted Powder) should be applied topically to the affected area. If the condition persists for a long time without healing, Zhizi Ren Wan (Gardenia Seed Pill) can be taken orally for gradual improvement.
Formula: Mahuang Xuanfei Jiu (Ephedra Decoction for Diffusing Lung Qi)
Composition: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) and Radix Ephedrae (Mahuanggen, 麻黄根), two liang each.
Five hu of first-press wine are used. The herbs are placed in the wine and boiled in a double boiler for the duration of three incense sticks, then left exposed overnight. Take three to five cups morning and evening. By the third to fifth day, pus will form and sores will appear; after more than ten days, the pus will drain completely. Once the pus is exhausted, the redness subsides, turning yellow first and then white, leading to recovery.
[Formula Song] Mahuang Xuanfei Jiu treats Jiu Zao Bi, where Heat in Blood ascends and is compounded by external Cold and stasis. Soaking Mahuang and its root in wine and boiling it in a double boiler yields reliable efficacy.
Another Formula: Liangxue Siwu Tang (Cooling Blood Four Substances Decoction)
Composition: Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shengdi, 生地), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao, 赤芍), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) stir-fried with wine, Poria (Chifuling, 赤茯苓), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, 陈皮), Carthami Flos (Honghua, 红花) washed with wine, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) raw, one qian.
Add two zhong of water and three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Freshum (Jiang, 姜). Decoct until eight parts remain. Add one cup of wine and two qian of Trogopterori Faex (Wulingzhi, 五灵脂) powder. Take hot. For those with Qi deficiency, add two qian of Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 黄芪) stir-fried with wine for immediate effect.
[Formula Song] Liangxue Siwu Tang treats the redness of Jiu Zao Bi, dispersing stasis, resolving stagnation, and regulating Ying Qi. It contains Huangqin, Fuling, Siwu Tang (Danggui, Chuanxiong, Shengdi, Chishao), Chenpi, Honghua, Gancao, decocted with Jiang, added with wine and Wulingzhi.
Another Formula: Zhizi Ren Wan (Gardenia Seed Pill)
Composition: Gardeniae Semen (Zhizi Ren, 栀子仁) ground into powder, mixed with melted Carnauba Wax (Huangla, 黄蜡) to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill per dose, chewed down with clear tea water. Avoid spicy foods.
[Formula Song] Zhizi Ren Wan treats the redness of Jiu Zao Bi and is applicable to persistent purple-black cases. Gardenia seeds are powdered and mixed with melted wax, formed into bullet-sized pills, and taken after meals with clear tea.
