[Verse] Mianyoufeng (Facial Wind) arises from the combination of dryness, heat, and dampness. The face and eyes swell, itching feels like insects crawling, skin presents white scales with extreme pruritus, and upon scratching, yellow exudate or blood oozes out, accompanied by pain.
[Note] This condition occurs on the face. Initially, the face and eyes swell, with an itching sensation resembling insect movement, dry skin, and frequent appearance of white scales. Subsequently, the itching becomes severe; scratching breaks the skin. If damp-heat is predominant, yellow exudate appears; if wind-dryness is predominant, blood oozes out, causing unbearable pain. This is caused by chronic blood dryness combined with excessive consumption of spicy and rich foods, leading to damp-heat in the Yangming Stomach Meridian affected by wind pathogen. For severe itching, Xiaofeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder) is indicated; for severe pain, Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Detoxification Decoction) is indicated. Externally, Mofeng Gao (Wind-Moving Ointment) should be applied slowly for effect.
Formula: Mofeng Gao (Wind-Moving Ointment)
Composition: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (5 qian), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活) (1 liang), Santalum Album Lignum (Baitanxiang, 白檀香) (1 qian), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻) (2 qian), Bletillae Rhizoma (Baiji, 白芨) (1 qian), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (2 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dangguishen, 当归身) (1 qian).
Soak the herbs in 5 liang of sesame oil for five days. Fry gently over low heat until yellow, then remove the dregs. Add 5 qian of beeswax, melt completely, filter through silk cloth, cool, and apply to the sores.
[Verse] Mofeng Gao treats Mianyoufeng (Facial Wind) syndrome, containing Mahuang, Qianghuo, Baitanxiang, Shengma, Baiji, Fangfeng, and Dangguishen soaked in sesame oil, fried yellow, dregs removed, wax added to solidify.
Another Formula: Xiaofeng San (See Section on Neck Button Sores)
Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Detoxification Decoction) for Zhasai (Mumps) (See Section on Baihui Carbuncle)
[Verse] The root cause of Zhasai (Mumps) lies in Stomach Heat. Initially, there is burning pain alternating with fever and chills. High swelling with redness and heat indicates Wind-Heat; flat swelling with pale color indicates Damp-Heat.
[Note] This condition is also known as Zifa (Beard Hair Disease) or Hansai Chuang (Cheek-Holding Sore). It occurs on the cheeks where muscles do not attach to bone, regardless of left or right side, originating from Yangming Stomach Heat. Initially, there is burning pain and alternating chills and fever. If swelling is high, red, and hot, it is caused by Wind-Heat in the Stomach Meridian; if swelling is flat and pale, it is caused by Damp-Heat in the Stomach Meridian. Initially, both types should be treated with Chaihu Gegen Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Decoction) to release the exterior. If thirst and constipation are present, Sixun Qingliang Yin (Six-Directional Cooling Decoction) should be used to clear the interior. After both exterior and interior syndromes are resolved, if swelling and pain persist, suppuration is inevitable; Tuoli Xiaodu San (Interior-Supporting Detoxification Powder) should be used to support the interior and expel toxins. When pus is ripe, puncture with a needle; for weak constitutions, use Pingbu (Balanced Tonification). Other treatments refer to the Ulceration Section. If cold-natured medicines are excessively taken during the initial stage, causing toxin to attack the throat, the condition becomes critical.
Formula: Chaihu Gegen Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Decoction)
Composition: Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen, 葛根), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) (calcined), Trichosanthis Radix (Huafen, 花粉), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (each 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (raw, 5 fen), Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi, 牛蒡子) (stir-fried, crushed), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao, 连翘) (heart removed), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗) (each 1 qian), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻) (3 fen).
Add 2 zhong of water, decoct to 8 fen, take at any time.
[Verse] Chaihu Gegen Tang releases the exterior, treating Zhasai (Mumps) swelling/pain or flat shape, containing Shigao, Huafen, Huangqin, Gancao, Niubangzi, Lianqiao, Jiegeng, Shengma.
