The *Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth) states: Feeding infants foods that cause speech impediments is harmful, leading to the formation of *jia* masses (abdominal lumps) in the child's abdomen, which are difficult to treat.
It further states: When a child's teeth have not yet been replaced, honey and malt sugar should not be given for consumption, as this will damage the teeth; even if they are eventually replaced, the new teeth will not be firm.
It also states: Infants must not be fed leftovers from dogs or rats, as this may cause white sores to grow in the throat, potentially leading to death.
Furthermore, it states: Infants must not be fed various fruits that are not yet ripe, as this may induce alternating chills and fever, as well as scrofula (tuberculous lymphadenitis).
The *Yangsheng Yaoji* (Essential Collection for Nourishing Life) states: Do not feed roasted soybeans mixed with wheat to children between one and ten years old, as this may cause qi stagnation leading to death.
It also states: Males under the age of fifteen must not consume ice-cold liquids, because their couli (skin texture and pores) are not yet fully formed, making them susceptible to disease.
It further states: While still breastfeeding, infants should not eat chicken meat, as this may generate roundworms (*Ascaris lumbricoides*) and also lead to emaciation.

The Kidney governs bone marrow, and the brain is the sea of marrow. If Kidney Qi is deficient, the marrow and brain will be inadequate and fail to consolidate properly.
