东北方:艮卦的气,立春时旺盛,称为条风,一名凶风,旺盛四十五天;
东方:震卦的气,春分时旺盛,称为明庶风,一名婴儿风,旺盛四十五天;
东南方:巽卦的气,立夏时旺盛,称为清明风,一名弱风,旺盛四十五天;
南方:离卦的气,夏至时旺盛,称为景风,一名大弱风,旺盛二十七天,合仲夏;
仲夏中央之气,主宰立八方之气,戊己土旺盛十八天,合夏至共四十五天,风名相同;
西南方:坤卦的气,立秋时旺盛,称为凉风,一名谋风,旺盛四十五天;
西方:兑卦的气,秋分时旺盛,称为闾阖风,一名刚风,旺盛四十五天;
西北方:乾卦的气,立冬时旺盛,称为不周之风,一名折风,旺盛四十五天;

According to the *Huangdi Taisu Jing* (Yellow Emperor's Grand Simplicity Classic): Wind is the leader of all diseases. When it changes and transforms into other diseases, there is no fixed pattern. (Yang Shangshan commented: Hundred diseases originate from wind; wind nurtures all things. If wind comes from the south towards the central palace [center], it is a deficient wind coming from behind the clash, which is a thief wind that harms people.)
The *Suwen Jing* (Basic Questions Classic) states: Among thousands of diseases, none are not caused by wind.
The *Yimen Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) states: Generally, human constitution is based on the Five Elements, growing due to wind qi. Although wind qi can nurture things, it can also harm and injure. Like water floating a boat, it can also capsize it.
The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on Disease Sources), i.e., *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun*, states: Zhongfeng (Wind Stroke/Attack) occurs when wind qi invades the human body. Wind is the qi of the four seasons, distributed in eight directions, governing the nurturing of all things. Coming from its own home direction is Zheng Feng (Upright Wind); coming against its direction is Xu Feng (Deficient Wind). Xin Zhongfeng (Heart Wind Attack): The patient can only lie flat on their back, cannot turn sideways, and sweats. If the skin is red and sweating profusely, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Xinxu (BL-15) acupoint with 100 moxa cones. If the lips are blue or white... Liver Zhongfeng: The patient can only squat-sit, cannot bow the head. If the color around both eyes extending to the forehead is slightly blue, lips are blue, and the face is yellow, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Ganshu (BL-18) acupoint with 100 moxa cones. If the color is deep blue-black, and the face is half yellow and half white, the liver is already damaged, untreatable, and death will occur within a few days.
Pi Zhongfeng (Spleen Wind Attack): Squat-sitting with abdominal fullness, whole-body jaundice, vomiting salty fluid; treatable; urgently moxa the Pishu (BL-20) acupoint with 100 moxa cones. If hands and feet are blue, it is untreatable.
Shen Zhongfeng (Kidney Wind Attack): Squat-sitting with lower back pain. Observe the left and right flanks; if there is no yellow patch the size of a wheat cake, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Shenshu (BL-23) acupoint with 100 moxa cones. If teeth are yellow-red, temples... [text missing] ...death will occur within a few days.
Fei Zhongfeng (Lung Wind Attack): Lying flat with chest fullness, shortness of breath, dizziness and sweating. Observe the area under the eyes and both sides above and below the nose extending down to the mouth; if the color is white, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Feishu (BL-13) acupoint... [text missing] ...death will occur within a few days.
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Drama Formulas) states: Wind is the qi of the four seasons and five elements, distributed in eight directions, following twelve months, ending at 360 days. Each season coming from its own home direction is Zheng Feng (Upright Wind). In heaven and earth, it corresponds to the Five Elements; in humans, it corresponds to the Qi of the Five Zang Organs. This is what all things generate and follow; it is not a toxic or pestilential qi. If humans exceed tolerance to it, they become ill due to inability to withstand the qi. Even if ill, some recover spontaneously; with treatment, recovery is easier. Wind that does not arrive at the proper time is Du Feng (Poisonous Wind). Without treatment, it cannot self-recover. Now, its syndromes are listed as follows:
Spring Jia-Yi Wood, East Clear Wind. Injury results in Gan Feng (Liver Wind), entering the head, neck, and Ganshu (BL-18). Symptoms include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, mood swings (anger and joy). Hypochondriac pain, evil blood.
Summer Bing-Ding Fire, South Tang Feng (Boiling Hot Wind). Injury results in Xin Feng (Heart Wind), entering the chest, hypochondrium, zang-fu organs, and Xinxu (BL-15). Symptoms include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, emaciation, propensity for sadness, complexion... [text missing].
Mid-Summer Wu-Ji Earth, same as South Yang Wind. Injury results in Pi Feng (Spleen Wind), entering the back spine and Pishu (BL-20). Symptoms include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, muscle pain, bodily lethargy... [text missing].
Autumn Geng-Xin Metal, West Cool Wind. Injury results in Fei Feng (Lung Wind), entering the shoulder-back and Feishu (BL-13). Symptoms include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, chills and fever, coughing moving the shoulder-back, complexion... [text missing].
Winter Ren-Gui Water, North Cold Wind. Injury results in Shen Feng (Kidney Wind), entering the waist, thighs, limbs, and Shenshu (BL-23). Symptoms include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, lower back, spine, shoulder, back, neck... [text missing], complexion... [text missing].
The above are the winds of upright qi of the four seasons. Ordinary people should be exposed to them; if exceeded, illness occurs, with such syndromes.
It is also said: Names of wind objects of the four seasons: Spring, 90 days, Clear Wind; Summer, 90 days, Tang Wind; Autumn, 90 days, Cool Wind; Winter, 90 days, Cold Wind. Their qi distributes in eight directions, each having different names. The Taiyi Deity resides in each direction according to solar terms for 45 days, and wind and clouds respond to it. Now:
Northeast: Qi of Gen trigram, prosperous at Start of Spring, called Tiao Feng (Striped Wind), also named Xiong Feng (Auspicious/Bad Wind? Note: 'Xiong' usually means fierce/bad here given context of 'thief wind'), prosperous for 45 days;
East: Qi of Zhen trigram, prosperous at Spring Equinox, called Ming Shu Feng (Bright Common Wind), also named Ying Er Feng (Infant Wind), prosperous for 45 days;
Southeast: Qi of Xun trigram, prosperous at Start of Summer, called Qing Ming Feng (Clear Bright Wind), also named Ruo Feng (Weak Wind), prosperous for 45 days;
South: Qi of Li trigram, prosperous at Summer Solstice, called Jing Feng (Scenery Wind), also named Da Ruo Feng (Great Weak Wind), prosperous for 27 days, combining with Mid-Summer;
Mid-Summer Central Qi, governing the establishment of Eight Directions' Qi, Wu-Ji Earth prosperous for 18 days, combining with Summer Solstice to total 45 days, wind name is the same;
Southwest: Qi of Kun trigram, prosperous at Start of Autumn, called Liang Feng (Cool Wind), also named Mou Feng (Plotting Wind), prosperous for 45 days;
West: Qi of Dui trigram, prosperous at Autumn Equinox, called Lü He Feng (Door Closing Wind), also named Gang Feng (Firm/Hard Wind), prosperous for 45 days;
Northwest: Qi of Qian trigram, prosperous at Start of Winter, called Bu Zhou Zhi Feng (Unfinished Wind), also named Zhe Feng (Breaking Wind), prosperous for 45 days;
North: Qi of Kan trigram, prosperous at Winter Solstice, called Guang Mo Feng (Vast Desert Wind), also named Da Gang Feng (Great Firm Wind), prosperous for 45 days.
The above eight directional winds, each coming from their home direction, govern the nurturing of all things, and the people suffer less disease and death.
It is also said: If the eight directional winds do not come from their home direction but from the "chong hou" (behind the clash/opposite), they are called Xu Xie (Deficient Evil). They plunder and harm all things, and the people suffer much disease and death. Thus the Sages say:
Xiong Feng (Fierce Wind) qi internally resides in the Large Intestine. Externally, it manifests under the hypochondriac muscles and bones, and in the joints of the four limbs. The books omit its syndromes, so it is currently unknown.
Ying Er Feng (Infant Wind) causes illness making sinews damp. Its qi internally resides in the Liver, externally in the sinews.
Ruo Feng (Weak Wind) causes illness making the body heavy. Its qi internally resides in the Stomach, externally in the flesh.
Da Ruo Feng (Great Weak Wind) causes illness making one feverish. Its qi internally resides in the Heart, externally in the vessels.
Mou Feng (Plotting Wind) causes illness making one weak, with limp and weak four limbs. Its qi internally resides in the Spleen, externally in the muscles.
Gang Feng (Firm Wind) causes illness making one dry; dry refers to withered and emaciated. Its qi internally resides in the Lungs, externally in the skin.
Zhe Feng (Breaking Wind) causes illness: if human vessel qi cuts off, there is diarrhea; if vessel qi closes, there is blockage and stagnation, prone to sudden death. Its qi internally resides in the Small Intestine, externally... [text missing, marked Right Hand].
Da Gang Feng (Great Firm Wind) causes illness making one cold; cold refers to suffering from cold conditions unable to self-warm. Its qi internally resides in the Kidneys, externally in the bones, spine, back muscles, and sinews.
The above eight winds coming from the "chong hou" cause illness thus.
It is also said: Taking wind after eating new food is called Mao Feng (Covering Wind). Symptoms: aversion to wind, excessive neck sweating, blockage below the diaphragm; inability to eat or drink, abdominal distension, thin body, large abdomen... [text missing].
Taking wind while drunk is called Lou Feng (Leaking Wind). Symptoms: aversion to wind, excessive sweating, shortness of qi, dry mouth and thirst, body feels hot like fire when near clothes, sweating like rain when about to eat... [text missing].
Taking wind after bathing is called Shou Feng (Head Wind). Symptoms: aversion to wind, excessive facial sweating, headache.
Taking wind after sexual intercourse is called Xie Feng (Escaping Wind). Symptoms: aversion to wind, sweat soaking clothes.
Lao Feng (Labor Wind) illness prefers the Lungs. It makes the neck stiff with aversion to wind, chills, eye protrusion with discharge of tears and saliva. Observing at three days and five days, if not clear-sighted... [text missing].
[Book Name Missing] It is also said: Wind, its qi likes to move and change frequently. Inside the human skin and muscles, it cannot vent inward nor dissipate outward; it changes its nature depending on human activity or rest. Its syndromes are as follows:
Wind encountering cold leads to inability to eat; encountering heat leads to muscle wasting and alternating chills and fever.
Wind encountering Yang excess leads to anhidrosis; encountering Yin excess leads to spontaneous sweating.
Obese people with wind: thick muscles make it hard to vent, prone to Re Zhong (Heat in the Middle), yellow eyes. Thin people with wind: thin muscles allow it to travel externally easily, internal cold, tearing... [text missing].
Wind encountering Excess syndrome: pores close, qi hides internally, causing heat and oppression. If due to hot food, sweat tries to pass, pores open, wind exits naturally. Then feeling... [text missing].
Wind encountering Deficiency syndrome: pores open, wind moves outward, feeling chilly like cold, sensation of water dripping on the body, like blowing through a bamboo tube... [text missing].
The *Lu Yan Fang* (Recorded Verified Formulas) states: Wind is the qi of heaven, earth, mountains, and rivers. Its origin has two distances: one is the qi of heaven, earth, eight directions, four seasons, and five elements, which is Yuan Feng (Distant Wind). This wind...
