Methods for Preparing Mugwort:
The *Duanju Fang* states: The Yellow Emperor said, "If the base of the moxa cone is not three fen wide, it is called futile (ya)." The explanation is: This refers to making the moxa cone such that the root diameter reaches three fen as appropriate.
The *Qianjin Fang* states: For infants older than seven days up to one year old, moxibustion should not exceed seven cones, with each cone being the size of a bird's droppings.
Methods of Using Fire:
The *Xia Ma Jing* states: Using fire from burning pine wood for moxibustion makes wounds difficult to heal; using fire from burning cypress wood causes excessive exudation; using fire from burning bamboo wood damages the sinews, leading to withering after many cones.
Fire from the aforementioned eight types of wood used for moxibustion on humans will all damage the blood, muscles, and bone marrow. The best fire is that obtained from Yang Sui (a bronze mirror used to focus sunlight for ignition), followed by fire struck from KT stone (flint).
The *Duanju Fang* states: Fire from the aforementioned eight types of wood harms human skin, blood, sinews, and bone marrow, and should not be used for moxibustion. The best is Yang Sui fire, followed by KT stone fire. Other fires in the world today are considered good and usable. It is passed down that these are acceptable.
Ode to Moxibustion Treatment:
The *Xia Ma Jing* states: Chant the following spell during moxibustion: "Heavenly Master and Heavenly Physician, may I guard and treat all diseases. I shall use acupuncture and moxibustion to cure illnesses, without offending the divine spirits, and let evil toxins dissipate."
Another spell says: "Heaven and earth open wide, banish King Yue, gather the power of Vajra, let needles not harm the spirit, let sharpness cause no injury, let diseases depart quickly, swiftly as the law commands."
The *Qianjin Fang* states: The origin of disease lies in the Zang-Fu organs. The meridians of the Zang-Fu organs connect the hands and feet, circulating through the abdomen and back, reaching everywhere, coming and going.
Their source is missing, insufficient to draw as a diagram.
Five Colors (Note: Original text here is fragmented or refers to concepts unclearly).
Another spell says: "He Tong He Tong, the sun rises in the east, Queen Mother on the left, Western Queen Mother on the right, Vermilion Bird in front, Black Tortoise behind, place drums and Weaver Girl. Let me moxa you,"
The *Qipo Maijue Jing* states: Renwu day, Xinmao day, Gengxu day, Xinyou day, Renyin day, Yimao day.
If patients are allowed to die on the above six days (Note: Text is obscure, likely referring to taboo days), one should avoid them carefully.
Regarding cases where one sees a patient without asking about the condition:
First month (Si day, Wu day), Second month (Wu day, Wei day), Third month (Xu day, Hai day), Fourth month (Xu day, Yin day), Fifth month (Hai day, Zi day), Sixth month (Chou day, Yin day),
Seventh month (Chou day...)
On Wu days, do not see patients; on Si days, do not inquire about illness.
Days when Tiangou Eats:
Zi year (Dingchou day), Chou year (Gengyin day), Yin year (Dingmao day), Mao year (Renchen day), Chen year (Dingsi day), Si year (Bingshen day),
Wu year (Ding...)
On the above days, do not examine patients or prepare and take medicines.
On Jia and Yi days (Pingdan, early morning), Bing and Ding days (Shiyuzhong, mid-morning), Wu and Ji days (Rizhong, noon), Geng and Xin days (Bushì, late afternoon), Ren and Gui days (Hunhun, dusk...)
On the above dates and times, do not visit patients.
Notes from Volume 2 of *Yixin Fang*:
The *Yupian* states: Pronounced 'ming' via reverse fanqie, [character] also. The *Song Yun* states: [Character] eye or simply written as 'ming', pronounced 'mi' via reverse fanqie.
Pronounced 'dinglang', meaning hitting the mark. The *Song Yun* is like the *Yupian*.
The Uji edition has it in the radical 'li', while this manuscript retains it in the text.
Current examination: Jiazi, Bingzi, Wuzi, Renzi, Bingwu, Gengwu,
Renwu, Jiashen, Bingxu, Renxu, Yisi, Dingsi, Yi
Hai, Xinhai, Dingren, Jiren, Xinren, Guiren, Guiren, Guimao
Now inspecting these days, avoiding various taboos, preparing medicine, taking medicine, acupuncture, and treating diseases are all auspicious. However, one can avoid taboo days used for solar terms and Shengnian KT days, etc.
