The syndrome of Zhong Feng (Stroke), ancient physicians all considered it to be caused by excess pathogenic factors from outside. When Liu Hejian presented his theory, he argued that paralysis due to stroke is not due to an excess of Liver Wood wind, nor is it caused by external fierce wind invading due to deficiency and causing obstruction in the nine orifices, thereby endangering life. However, local geographical conditions vary, so manifestations may differ. Later, Wang Andao proposed that although they all stated "stroke is not wind," this included concepts such as wind mixed with summerheat becoming summerheat-wind, or internal wind summoning external wind. These are merely the interpretations of "stroke is not wind" among these three schools. Therefore, the method for treating wind diseases must seek the cause in the imbalance of Qi and Blood. For those with Qi deficiency, tonifying Qi should be the primary approach, adjusting both Qi and Blood simultaneously. Combined with methods to resolve phlegm, for syndromes resembling Lei Zhong (Apoplexy-like Syndrome), heavy doses are generally used.
Although it may not cure all cases, it is particularly effective for treating obese individuals with Qi deficiency complicated by phlegm, presenting with numbness in the right hand and foot, and mental confusion with a desire to faint.
