Zifan (Fetal Restlessness) refers to a sensation of mental restlessness and agitation. This is caused by the internal stirring of Heart Fire and Ministerial Fire, while Kidney Water fails to control the fire. There are also cases where phlegm obstructs the Zhongwan (Middle Jiao/Stomach region), leading to restlessness.
For treating restlessness caused by the hyperactivity of Sovereign and Ministerial Fires:
Danzhuye (Lophatheri Herba, 3 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, each 1 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber, heart removed), Fuling (Poria, each 3 qian).
Decoct in water and take.
For treating restlessness caused by Stomach Qi deficiency:
Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix), Fuling (Poria, each 3 qian), Xianju Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian), Jiang Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Zingibere et Alumine), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, each 1 qian), Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Melle), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Guang Muxiang (Costi Radix, each [text missing]).
Zixian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy) occurs when a pregnant woman suffers from blood deficiency and wind pathogen invasion, resulting in lockjaw, opisthotonos (body bent backward like a bow), loss of consciousness, and upward surging of phlegm-saliva. This condition is called Zixian. It manifests abruptly and is critical.
Add the following herbs:
Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, shaved, 1.5 qian), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 1.5 qian), Guishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 1 qian), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 3 qian), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, 1 qian), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba, 2 qian). Add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct in water and take.
If a pregnant woman is careless with her daily activities, such as climbing high or raising her arms, it may cause the fetus's mouth to protrude, leading to crying sounds from within the abdomen. This is called Ziming (Fetal Crying). The lump above the navel indicates the fetus has its mouth on it, causing Yin essence depletion.
Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 5 qian), Guishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), Huai Shanyao (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 3 qian), Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix, 3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 0.3 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 0.7 qian), Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Melle, 0.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take.
The Classics state: "When a woman is heavily pregnant for nine months, she may become aphonic; she should not take medicine, and after ten months, speech will return." Qibo said: "The fetal sac is tied to the Kidney, and the Kidney meridian connects to the root of the tongue, hence speech issues." [Text here is fragmented]. [Missing text regarding taste/decoction].
(Self-made formula): Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Sugeng (Perillae Caulis), Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix, each 1.5 qian), Zhen Hua Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Grandis, 0.8 fen). Add three slices of fresh ginger and one green plum (Qingguo), decoct in water.
(New Section):
When a pregnant woman suffers from malaria, it is called Zinue (Fetal Malaria). It is commonly seen in pregnant women at five or six months gestation. Due to Liver deficiency and pathogen invasion, malaria develops. Whether due to Wind, Cold, Summer-heat, or Dampness, if not properly resolved, it becomes malaria. If a pregnant woman contracts this, it often leads to miscarriage. If treated improperly, both mother and child may perish. Why? Miscarriage caused by malaria leaves the malarial pathogen lingering, further depleting blood and strengthening the pathogen. It should be treated according to the pattern of Blood Deficiency with Spasm to avoid death. However, treating Zinue must be assisted by methods to calm the fetus. Only then can the fetus be secured, and both mother and child preserved. How can this be ignored? This is recorded here for correction.
