Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) one jin, Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) six liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) two liang, Jingmi (Oryzae Sativa Semen) six he.
First boil Shigao for dozens of boiling periods, then add the herbs and rice. When the rice is cooked and the decoction is ready, take it warm.
The same Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), when combined with Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), becomes Qinglong (referring to Da Qinglong Tang or Xiao Qinglong Tang); when combined with Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), it becomes Baihu (referring to Baihu Tang). The former aims to generate clouds and rain to resolve external pathogens; the latter aims to clear and purify the Lung and Stomach, sweeping away internal heat. Their principles are each appropriate in their own context. However, those using this formula must examine carefully and repeatedly. Only when spontaneous sweating, thirst, and a large and forceful pulse are all present can it be administered. If mistakenly prescribed, disaster will follow immediately. This is because this syndrome involves damp-heat stagnation and steaming, hence there is sweating but vexing heat does not resolve. Since there is already sweating, diaphoresis (releasing the exterior) is contraindicated, as it would lead to Yang collapse; purgation is also contraindicated, as it would consume Yin. Only clearing the heat of the Lung and Wei (Defensive) level with great intensity is the correct method.
Zhuye (Bambusae Folium) two handfuls, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) one jin, Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) three liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [stir-fried] two liang, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) one jin, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) half sheng, Jingmi (Oryzae Sativa Semen) half sheng.
Add fresh ginger and decoct.
Treats deficiency-heat of the Lung and Stomach, therefore Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) are added. Zhuye (Bambusae Folium) is added out of fear that deficient Yang may invade internally the Bao Luo (Pericardium Collateral).
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) eight qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) two qian five fen, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) five qian, Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [stir-fried with honey] three qian, Shenggancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) three qian.
Each dose is five qian. Add fresh ginger and Jujubae Fructus, and decoct.
Fire resulting from constraint and stagnation, if suppressed by counter-flow methods, will become more激ated and rise further. Here, wind-dispelling herbs are used entirely to scatter it, for fire rises with wind power, and also relies on wind power...
Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) four liang, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [soaked in wine], Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) two liang, Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) [stir-fried until black], Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [stir-fried with wine], Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) one liang.
Grind into powder, each dose is three qian. Add Zhuye (Bambusae Folium) and raw honey, and decoct.
Those who explain this formula merely say it is a medication to drain fire from the Upper and Middle Jiao (Triple Burners). If the Lower Jiao (Triple Burner) has no disease, how can Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) be used lightly? Observing Zhang Zhongjing's Three Chengqi Decoctions, when the pathogen is in the upper part, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) is not used, which is evident. Little do they know that under the indications, there is the phrase "constipation of both large and small bowels"; thus, how can the Lower Jiao (Triple Burner) not be treated simultaneously?
