Treatment for swelling and pain of the throat:
Borax (Pengsha), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai), Gallus gallus domesticus bile (Qingyu dan), Chalcanthite (Danfan), Bombyx Batryticatus (Baican), Realgar (Xionghuang), Sophora Tonkinensis Root (Shandougen), Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus (Yanxiao).
Grind the above into powder, gargle to remove saliva, then insufflate into the throat.

Treatment for swelling and pain of the throat with phlegm-saliva obstruction:
Alumen (Baifan) (2 qian), Veratrum nigrum (Lilu), Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Ya zao) (remove seeds, 7 pieces), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan) (straight ones, 7 pieces), Realgar (Xionghuang) (2 fen).
Grind the above into powder, insufflate into the nose to remove phlegm-saliva.

Treatment for swelling and pain of the throat:
Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus (Yanxiao) (1 qian), Realgar (Xionghuang) (3 fen).
Grind the above into powder, dilute with cold tea decoction, gargle and spit out.

Treatment for winding throat wind (Chanhou Feng) causing swelling, pain, and swallowing obstruction:
Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) (half zi), Borax (Pengsha) (1 qian), Cinnabar (Chensha) (1 qian), Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus (Yanxiao), Arsenolite (Hanshuishi) (each 2 qian).
Grind the above uniformly, take one "zi" amount each time, sprinkle on the tongue, swallow with saliva, or it can also be insufflated into the throat.

Treatment for throat closure (Houbi):
Use the above method to prick Shaoshang (LU11) acupoint to bleed for immediate cure. This acupoint is located on the medial side of the thumb, about the width of a leek leaf from the corner of the nail, pricked with a three-edged needle.

Treatment for sore throat (Houbi) with swelling and pain:
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Mentha Haplocalyx (Bohe), Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang), Scutellaria Baicalensis (Huangqin), Trichosanthes Radix (Tianhuafen), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao), Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata with Honey (Sheng Gancao).
Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight parts remain, take at any time.

Treatment for foreign body sensation in the throat (Guzei) causing swallowing obstruction:
Belamcanda Chinensis (Shegan), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), Akebiae Caulis (Mutong), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao).
Add two zhong of water, add seven leaves of Phyllostachys heterocycla var. pubescens (Zhuyexie), decoct and take.

Treatment for food residue or fish bones/chicken bones stuck in the throat:
Take one cup of unrooted clear water. Form the "Three Mountains Mudra" with the left hand, hold the cup facing the sun. Form the "Sword Mudra" with the right hand, write a cross under both feet and step firmly upon it. Chant the mantra: "Sun Moon Gold Hook Transform into Completion."

Treatment for soft palate abscess (Xuanyong) with swelling and pain preventing eating:
See formula Lianqiao Yin (Forsythia Decoction) mentioned previously.
Treatment for soft palate abscess:
Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Mentha Haplocalyx (Bohe), Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata with Honey (Sheng Gancao), Trichosanthes Radix (Tianhuafen), Sophora Tonkinensis Root (Shandougen).
Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight parts remain, take at any time.

Treatment for soft palate abscess (Xuanyong) with swelling, pain, and throat dysfunction:
Belamcanda Chinensis (Shegan), Farfarae Flos (Zhuhuang), Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus (Yanxiao) (each 1 liang), Rhinocerotis Cornu (Xijiao), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Baiyao, Alumen (Baifan), Huangyao, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (each 5 liang).
Grind the above into powder, make honey pills the size of quail eggs. Wrap each pill in silk and allow it to dissolve slowly by swallowing saliva.
