Treats abdominal distension and pain caused by intestinal parasites (worms), as well as jaundice resulting from dietary stagnation and labor-induced fatigue, where the patient has a craving to eat tea leaves, rice grains, charcoal, soil, and other substances (this occurs because food stagnation and damp-heat steaming and郁 [stagnation] generate various worms, leading to abdominal fullness).
Shijunzi (Quinine Fruit, *Quisqualis Indica* Fructus) (shelled, 2 liang) Nanxing (Arisaema Rhizome, *Arisaema Erubescens* Rhizoma) (processed with ginger juice) Binglang (Areca Seed, *Areca catechu* Semen) (1 liang). Stir-fry these drugs together. If the patient specifically craves raw rice, add Maiya (Malt, *Hordeum Vulgare* Fructus Germinatus) 1 jin.
This prescription belongs to the Hand-Yangming and Foot-Yangming meridians. The sweetness of Shijunzi, the toxicity of Nanxing, and the bitterness of Binglang all possess vermifuge properties. By stir-frying them with other substances, it aligns with the preferences of the worms; using rock sugar as an adjuvant induces ingestion through its sweet taste.

Treats Gui Zhu (Ghost Tethering) and Chuan Shi Lao Zhai (Transmissible Consumption Disease) (this is one of the five types of Zhu diseases. Its symptoms cause alternating chills and fever, a depressed and silent demeanor, unknown specific suffering, and general malaise throughout the body, and it can be transmitted after death).
Ta Gan (Otter Liver, *Lutra Lutra* Hepatis) one piece (must be taken from a live otter, otherwise many are counterfeit). Dry in the shade and grind into powder. Take 3 qian with water, three times daily.
This prescription belongs to the Three Yin meridians. Wu Hegao stated: "Otter liver treats Ghost Tethering." Why is this so? Any creature that dislikes humans, dwells in secluded places, hides during the day, and emerges at night belongs to the Yin category; thus, they are borrowed to treat Yin diseases. The reason for using only the liver is that the Liver is the Jueyin organ, the zang organ that stores the Hun (Ethereal Soul). (Wang Ang's note: Creatures that dislike humans, dwell in secluded places, hide during the day, and emerge at night include foxes and rats, not just otters. *Bencao Gangmu* states: All animal livers have a fixed number of lobes, but the otter's liver grows one lobe per month, including some degenerated old lobes.)
(From *Yi Jian Zhi*)
Treats Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst) accompanied by intestinal worms.
Kulian Genpi (Toosendan Root Bark, *Melia Toosendan* Cortex Radicis). Take a handful of fresh white bark, cut and dry-roast it, add a small amount of Shexiang (Musk, *Moschus* Moschiferus) Decoct in water. Take on an empty stomach. Even if the patient is weak, it is not harmful; it will expel three or four worms, resembling roundworms but red in color, after which the thirst will cease.
This prescription belongs to the Yangming meridians. In the syndrome of Xiao Ke, there are cases where worms consume the essence and fluids. This is generally due to drinking strong wine and eating roasted/grilled foods, accumulating Stomach Heat, where damp-heat generates worms; this is theoretically sound, but clinical examination must be meticulous.
The eye, in the human body, is merely one of the five sense organs. However, ancient physicians established a specialized department for it, because the other orifices each govern one zang organ, or sometimes two. Although the eye is considered the opening of the Liver, the essence of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs all ascend to the eye to form visual clarity. The nest of essence is the eye itself. The essence of bone manifests as the pupil; the essence of sinews manifests as the black part of the eye (iris/cornea); the essence of blood manifests as the white part of the eye (sclera); the essence of flesh manifests as the eyelids; the essence of qi manifests as the vessels around the white part. Later emerging from the middle of the neck, this indicates that the eye embodies the functions of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs. Therefore, eye disorders are numerous, and prescriptions are extensive. Due to space limitations here, only a few prescriptions specifically treating eye diseases are briefly recorded for reference. Prescriptions for dispersing wind, drying dampness, purging fire, and nourishing blood, which can be used generally, are scattered across various categories.
The Eye has Five Wheels theory: The white sclera is the Qi Wheel, belonging to Lung Metal, hence it is the hardest; the blue/green iris is the Wind Wheel, belonging to Liver Wood, internally containing fluid essence to nourish the pupil; the inner and outer canthi are collectively the Blood Wheel, where the large canthus belongs to Heart Sovereign Fire (redness indicates Excess Fire), and the small canthus belongs to Pericardium Ministerial Fire (redness indicates Deficiency Fire); the upper and lower eyelids are the Flesh Wheel, belonging to Spleen Earth. Earth contains all things, thus enveloping the other four wheels. Opening and movement belong to Yang, serving application; closing and stillness belong to Yin, representing sleep. Within the eye, there is a substance called Shen Gao (Divine Paste), formed by the accumulation of fluid essence seeping from the Gallbladder, which nourishes the pupil. There is Shen Shui (Divine Water), transformed from innate true qi, a moistening water. There is Shen Guang (Divine Light), originating from the Mingmen (Gate of Life), connecting to the Gallbladder, issuing from the Heart, representing the function of Fire. There is Zhen Xue (True Blood), ascending from the Liver to nourish the ocular collaterals. There is Zhen Qi (True Qi), the vital energy circulating within the ocular collaterals, which is the innate Yuan Yang. There is Zhen Jing (True Essence), fluid essence transformed from pre- and post-natal yuan qi, arising from the Kidney, applied to the Gallbladder, and reaching the pupil. The eye has several layers of hard shell. True blood nourishes Divine Water; Divine Water envelopes Divine Paste. A point of clear, greenish transparency within the paste is the essence gathered by the Gallbladder and Kidney. Only this point can reflect all things, boundless and vast. This is called the Water Wheel, belonging to Kidney Water. One’s righteousness or wickedness, longevity or short life, nobility or baseness can all be verified through the eyes. Is this not the greatest treasure of the human body?
