(Li Dongyuan)
Treats internal eye disorders with blurred vision, tinnitus, and deafness. (The Qi of the five Zang organs is derived from the Spleen and Stomach to reach the nine orifices; excessive mental and physical labor damages the Middle Jiao, preventing the harmonious Qi from ascending, thus causing blurred vision and deafness. Li Dongyuan stated: If physicians do not regulate the Spleen and Stomach, nourish Blood, and calm the Spirit, but only treat the symptoms without addressing the root, they lack understanding of medical principles.)
Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (5 qian each), Gegen (Puerariae Radix), Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis) (3 qian each), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri) (2 qian each; if there is heat-induced restlessness, gradually increase in spring, double in summer; if Spleen deficiency exists, remove; reduce dosage as heat diminishes), Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) (1.5 qian), Zhigancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (1 qian). Take 4 qian per dose, administer before sleep, and again at Wugeng time (3-5 AM).
This prescription targets the Foot-Taiyin Splein Meridian, Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. The Clear Yang Qi of the twelve meridians all ascend to the head and face and enter the orifices. Due to improper diet and overwork, the Spleen and Stomach are injured, Heart Fire becomes excessive, causing the vessels to boil and pathogenic factors to harm the orifices. Renshen and Gancao are sweet and warm to tonify the Spleen and Stomach; Gancao is sweet and mild to harmonize the Spleen and Stomach; Gegen, Shengma, and Manjingzi are light and ascending, entering the Yangming Meridian to stimulate Stomach Qi, which ascends to the head and eyes. Once the Middle Qi is sufficient, Clear Yang ascends, the nine orifices become unobstructed, hearing becomes acute, and vision becomes clear; Baishao astringes Yin and harmonizes Blood, Huangbai tonifies the Kidney to generate Water. Since the eyes are the orifice of the Liver and the ears are the orifice of the Kidney, these two herbs are used to pacify the Liver and nourish the Kidney.
(Han Zhihe)
Treats conditions resulting from excessive sweating or purging in Cold Damage diseases, leading to collapse of Yang and loss of Blood, aversion to people, curling up while lying down, occasional tremors resembling malaria, and postpartum blood collapse with deficiency (Han Zhihe stated: If one only treats the emergency reversal, the effect will be slow; administering Yangrou Tang yields very rapid results. Although the patient's complexion shows signs of floating Yang, this indicates Heat lodging in the Upper Jiao; the Yin Qi of the Middle and Lower Jiao is already abundant. If the Lower Jiao can be regulated to possess Yang, the Yang Qi of the Upper Jiao will descend into the Dantian, finding its proper residence).
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Muli (Concha Ostreae, calcined, 1 liang), Longgu (Os Draconis, calcined, 5 qian), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 2 liang), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed, 2 liang), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi).
This prescription targets the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Danggui and Shaoyao tonify Yin; Fuzi, Shengjiang, and Guizhi restore Yang; Longgu and Muli consolidate and arrest collapse; Yangrou (Mutton) provides substantial tonification to generate Qi and Blood.
