Blood stasis in the Blood Mansion (chest cavity) causes blood in the vessels to inevitably stagnate. Since the Qi vessels are connected to the blood vessels, how can the exhaled breath not be foul? This is analogous to the principle that wind passing through flowers carries fragrance. Taking this prescription in the evening and Xuefu Zhuyu Tang (Blood Mansion Stasis-Expelling Decoction) in the morning will surely show efficacy within three to five days. Regardless of the disease, if a foul odor is detected from the patient's breath, treat according to this method.
If menstruation is absent for three or four months, or five or six months, accompanied by coughing, rapid panting, reduced appetite, weakness in the four limbs, afternoon fever, and worsening symptoms at night, taking five to six doses of this prescription, or nine doses for severe cases, will invariably result in recovery.
Initially, there is soreness and weakness in the four limbs, followed by gradual muscle emaciation, reduced appetite, sallow complexion, coughing with frothy sputum, mental restlessness, afternoon tidal fever, and profuse sweating at dawn. When seeking medical treatment, practitioners initially employ Yin-nourishing methods, then Yang-tonifying methods. If tonification fails, they claim "deficiency cannot tolerate tonification" and feel helpless. It is laughable that authors fail to distinguish between illness caused by physical weakness and weakness resulting from illness. If it is indeed post-illness deficiency of Qi and Blood after severe diseases like Cold Damage or Epidemic Febrile Diseases, where weakness leads to further illness, one should naturally tonify the deficiency to cure the illness. However, if one was not originally weak but became ill, and prolonged illness led to physical weakness, one should naturally eliminate the pathogen; once the pathogen is removed, Yuan Qi (Original Qi) will naturally recover. Examination reveals no exterior syndrome and no interior syndrome; all observed symptoms are manifestations of Blood stasis. In frequent treatment of such cases, mild cases resolve in nine doses, and severe cases in eighteen doses. After taking three doses, if Qi is weak, decoct Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 8 qian) daily and take it slowly over the course of one day; this is a method combining attack and tonification. If Qi is not significantly weak, Huangqi need not be used; wait for the pathogen to be eliminated, and Yuan Qi will naturally recover.
Regardless of the disease, if it flares up during solar term transitions, it is due to Blood stasis. How do we know it is Blood stasis? We often see patients who hematemesis due to Blood clots also flare up during solar term transitions, thus knowing it is Blood stasis. Taking three doses prevents recurrence.
In the early stage of Gan Disease (Pediatric Malnutrition), urine resembles rice wash water, accompanied by afternoon tidal fever. Over time, cyanotic veins become exposed, the abdomen becomes distended and hard, the complexion turns greenish-yellow, muscles emaciate, and hair and skin become withered. Examples include Pi Gan (Spleen Gan), Gan Xie (Gan Diarrhea), Gan Zhong (Gan Swelling), Gan Li (Gan Dysentery), Gan Gan (Liver Gan), Xin Gan (Heart Gan), Gan Ke (Gan Thirst), Fei Gan (Lung Gan), Shen Gan (Kidney Gan), Gan Re (Gan Heat), Nao Gan (Brain Gan), Yan Gan (Eye Gan), Bi Gan (Nose Gan), Ya Gan (Tooth Gan), Ji Gan (Spine Gan), Hui Gan (Roundworm Gan), Wu Gu Gan (Innocent Gan), Ding Xi Gan, and Bu Lu Gan. These are categorized into nineteen types, with fifty prescriptions established. Many prescriptions contain large cold herbs such as Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Lingyang Jiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu), and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum). The theory states that the etiology is excessive intake of milk and food, unregulated consumption of rich and sweet foods, stagnation in the Middle Jiao (epigastrium), delayed digestion and transformation, gradual injury to the intestines and stomach, leading to accumulated heat. Severe heat forms Gan disease, consuming Qi and Blood and scorching body fluids; hence, large cold herbs are used to clear accumulated heat. Initially, I used these prescriptions symptomatically without any success. Upon careful review of the theory, "unregulated diet causing stagnation in the Middle Jiao" refers to Food Stagnation, which is unsuitable for large cold herbs. Regarding the phrase "delayed digestion and transformation gradually injuring the intestines and stomach, generating accumulated heat," this should be considered Deficient Heat, which is also unsuitable for large cold herbs. Later, encountering such cases, I carefully examined them: afternoon tidal fever, worsening at night, indicates Blood stasis. Exposed cyanotic veins are not tendons but visible blood vessels; blue vessels indicate internal Blood stasis. A distended, hard, and lumpy abdomen is formed by coagulated Blood stasis. Use Tongqiao Huoxue Tang (Orifice-Unblocking Blood-Invigorating Decoction) to unblock blood vessels; use Xuefu Zhuyu Tang to eliminate afternoon tidal fever; use Gexia Zhuyu Tang to digest accumulations. Rotating these three prescriptions invariably results in recovery.
