Gua Di (Cucumis Melon Fruit) removes floating pathogens and is still used to treat jaundice. To eliminate polyps, it can be powdered and blown into the nose. If a person suffers from disease in the middle of the chest and abdomen, this medicine can still induce vomiting or purgation. Jia Su (False Mint) is originally named Jing Jie (Schizonepeta). It descends Qi, eliminates fatigue, and treats Blood Wind syndrome. It is an essential medicine for treating sores, scabies, and Shang Han (Cold Damage Syndrome), and also treats blood syncope and headache. Zi Su (Perilla Leaf) descends Qi and opens the stomach, treats distension, phlegm, and benefits the large intestine. Drinking its decoction removes crab toxicity. If one wishes to calm wheezing and cough, Zi Su Zi (Perilla Seed) is particularly effective. Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flower) removes water retention and reduces edema; it must be used for treating cough with reverse flow of Qi and throat rattling. It can also treat sputum, heart pain, abdominal pain, aversion to wind, bi-syndrome, and itching. He Li Le (Chebula Fruit) is bitter, opens the stomach, warms cold Qi, treats Ben Tun (Running Piglet Syndrome), aids digestion, transforms phlegm, stops dysentery, and further treats leukorrhea and intestinal wind bleeding. Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry) supplements Qi, dispels wind, brightens the eyes, and benefits Yuan Yang (Primal Yang). Its root, named Di Gu Pi (Lycium Bark), is also usable; formulas for treating heat, deficiency, and consumption are recorded for it. Hu Po (Amber) was originally tree resin that transformed after being underground for a thousand years. It calms the Heart, stabilizes the soul, dissipates blood stasis, and if used to treat various Lin syndromes (dysuric disorders), the effect is even more miraculous. Cao Guo (Black Cardamom) is pungent, eliminates Qi distension, primarily dries dampness and treats Spleen cold, resolves pestilence, wards off miasma, dissolves malaria nodules, disperses cold-phlegm, and stops acid regurgitation. Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) clears bone-steaming heat and also pacifies accumulated blood in the intestines and stomach, stops hematemesis and epistaxis, drains Yin fire, and treats bone-steaming due to deficiency without sweat. Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) is sweet and warm, digests retained food, breaks up clumps, and tonifies Qi for deficient persons. It moves stagnant blood in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner); for fullness and distension in the Heart and abdomen, this herb is suitable to relieve symptoms. Hua Shi (Talcum) benefits orifices and drains Qi, promotes urination and unblocks fluids, enters the Tai Yang (Greater Yang) channel. When there are accumulations in the Large Intestine and Stomach, it pushes down heavy turbidity to strengthen Qi transformation. Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf) is cold when raw and warm when cooked; moxibustion with it can remove hundred diseases and prolong life, warms the Middle, warms the Stomach, harmonizes Liver Qi, regulates Blood, and can stop vomiting. Bei Mu (Fritillaria Bulb) is cold and neutral, treats cough with reverse flow of Qi, primarily clears irritability and heat, treats Shang Han, eliminates abdominal knots and subcardiac fullness, stops sweating, harmonizes the Middle, and relieves depression and vexation. Cha Ming (Tea Leaves) is bitter, eliminates phlegm-heat and thirst, clears the Spirit, treats sudden headache, heals sores, descends Qi, benefits urination, and normalizes Qi transformation. Cu (Vinegar) astringes throat sores, reduces swelling and toxins, treats jaundice, breaks up hard masses, and treats postpartum blood-deficiency syncope in women; blowing it into the nose collects the Spirit and ensures perfection. Jiu (Alcohol) unites the Blood vessels, thickens the intestines and stomach, relieves sorrow, releases anger, greatly supports the Liver, nourishes the form, wards off evil, and nourishes Spleen Qi, but excessive drinking damages the Spirit and shortens lifespan. Peng Sha (Borax) transforms phlegm and stops cough; its sweet and緩 (slow/relaxing) function breaks up hard masses. It is suitable for early-stage Hou Bi (Sore Throat), and when Yin and Yang Qi disperse, stagnation naturally disappears. Ling Sha (Cinnabar Cinnabarite) is warm, unites the Blood vessels, calms the soul, nourishes Qi, benefits the Spirit, stops Yin irritability and fullness, kills malevolent spirits, and primarily treats all diseases of the Five Zang organs.
