[Six Prescriptions]
Prescription for Incense for Clothes:
Frankincense (8 liang) Huoxiang (Agastache rugosa), Lantan (each 3 liang, another version lacks this herb) Jiaxiang (Carapax Trionycis) (2 liang) Zantang (5 liang) Qingguipi (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae, Green variety) (5 liang)
The above six herbs are ground into powder. For the aforementioned dry aromatic materials, first select those that are hard, sticky, moist, and difficult to crush; crush them separately or cut them finely so that they resemble millet grains. Then spread each type thinly on a plate. The remaining herbs are crushed separately and also spread on plates. If sifting is required, use gauze; do not use wooden mortars. Carefully boil honey, then mix it with the powdered herbs by hand directly on the plate until uniform, and then pound again. The degree of dryness and moisture must be adjusted appropriately, not excessive. Too dry makes pill formation difficult; too wet makes burning difficult. If too wet, the fragrance will not emit; if too dry, there will be excessive smoke, resulting only in a burnt smell without fragrance. Therefore, when preparing incense, the coarseness, fineness, dryness, and moisture must be balanced, the proportion of honey to incense must be appropriate, and the fire must be low, allowing the incense and green smoke to burn out together.
Incense for Garments:
Chenxiang (Aquilaria Agallocha) Muxuxiang (Medicago sativa aroma? Note: likely refers to a specific aromatic plant, literal translation insufficient, kept as Pinyin/Medicago Sativa contextually implied but strictly "Muxuxiang" in text) Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) Gansongxiang (Nardostachys Chinensis) Huoxiang (Agastache rugosa) Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Ainaixiang (Borneolum Syntheticum? Or specific moss/fern, usually Borneol related but distinct here, kept as Ainaixiang) Jishexiang (Cardamomi Semen) Quenaoxiang (Moschus? No, Moschus is listed separately. Likely a specific animal/plant scent, kept as Quenaoxiang) Shexiang (Moschus) (0.5 liang) Baitanxiang (Santalum Album) Linglingxiang (Lingzhi Lingxiao Herb? Usually Paederia Scandens) (10 liang)
The above twelve herbs are each crushed into fine particles resembling millet or bran, then mixed thoroughly. If placed in a wardrobe, they must be wrapped in cotton cloth; paper must not be used. They should be used in autumn and winter; during the peak of summer heat, the fragrance dissipates quickly. All herbal aromas should preferably be fresh and used at the appropriate season. This serves as the general principle for small-scale preparation.
Dry Incense Prescription:
Dingxiang (1 liang) Shexiang (Moschus) Baitan (Santalum Album) Chenxiang (Aquilaria Agallocha) (each 0.5 liang) Linglingxiang (Paederia Scandens) (5 liang) Gansongxiang (Nardostachys Chinensis) (7 liang) Huoxiang (Agastache rugosa) (8 liang)
The above seven herbs: first crush Dingxiang, then crush Gansongxiang. After mixing and pounding them together, add Shexiang (Moschus) and blend well for use as garment incense.
Prescription for Treating All Swellings, Regulating Qi Descending, and Dispersing Toxicity/Pain:
Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) Huoxiang (Agastache rugosa) Linglingxiang (Paederia Scandens) Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Gansongxiang (Nardostachys Chinensis) (each 3 liang) Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma) Binglang (Arecae Semen) (each 1 liang) Shexiang (Moschus) (1 zhu)
The above eleven herbs are crushed, sifted into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded for a thousand strokes to form pills the size of wu zi (pharbitis seeds). Hold in the mouth and swallow, allowing the medicinal effect to permeate. Take three times daily and once at night, totaling twelve pills per day and night. One will immediately perceive a fragrance; after five days, the body will emit fragrance; after ten days, clothes and bedding will carry the fragrance. Avoid consuming the Five Pungent Spices.
For the decoction method: Take equal parts of the herbs preceding Binglang (Arecae Semen), boil in water over a gentle fire for the duration of one meal, until boiling vigorously and stable. Add Shexiang (Moschus) powder (1 zhu). Do not filter out the dregs. Clarify the liquid and take one sheng. This is indicated for all types of ding swellings, oral and throat conditions, carbuncles under the feet and back nails, hemorrhoids, and fistulas. If the decoction is ineffective, switch to holding the pills in the mouth, and wash the affected areas frequently with the decoction. (Another version includes Doukou (Cardamomi Fructus Rotundus) and excludes Shexiang.)
