Twelve Formulas:
Formulas for Resolving Yege (Aconitum) Poisoning:
Crack one chicken egg and swallow it whole; within a short time, the Yege poison will be vomited out.
Another formula: Boil liquorice juice, cool it until frozen, and drink it.
Another formula: Consume chicken feces juice.
Jichang San (Chicken Intestine Powder) for Resolving Various Drug Poisonings:
Jichangcao (Patrinia herb), Qicai (Shepherd's purse herb), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) [each 1 liang], Lanzi (Isatidis Folium or similar blue dye plant seed/fruit, 1 he), Ben Tu (soil from under dung heaps, 1 fen), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Liquorice Root) [each 2 fen, processed with honey/fire].
The above eight ingredients are crushed, sifted into a powder, and taken orally with water using a "fangcun bi" measure. Drinking plenty of water is advisable. If bitten by venomous insects or snakes, prick the wound with a needle to let blood flow, place a bean-sized amount of the medicine into the wound, keep it moist, and it will heal. For arrow wounds, shave a bamboo stick to the length of a hairpin (1 chi 5 cun), wrap it with cotton, wet it with water, and apply it to the wound to suck out the toxic blood.
Formula for Yege Poisoning Causing Trismus (Lockjaw):
Take a section of green bamboo, remove both nodes, and place it over the umbilicus. Pour cold water into the bamboo; replace the water as soon as it warms up. Within a short time, the mouth will open. Once open, administer medicine immediately, resulting in instant recovery. Avoid alcohol and change the water frequently.
Formula for Resolving All Kinds of Poisons:
Gancao (Liquorice Root, processed with honey/fire, 3 liang), Liangmi Fen (Millet flour, 1 he), Mi (Honey, 0.5 liang).
Boil the three ingredients in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Strain the dregs, add 1 he of flour, and boil again. Then add 0.5 liang of honey. Take 7 he at a time, and take another dose shortly after.
Formula for Gouwen (Gelsemium) and Other Poisons Causing Extreme Debility, Cyanosis, Trismus, Cold Extremities, and Numbness:
Qicai (Shepherd's purse herb, 8 liang).
Boil this single ingredient in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Cool it to body temperature. Take 5 he per dose, three times daily and twice at night.
Another formula: Drink boiled Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) juice.
Another formula: Drink boiled Lan Zhi (Isatis leaf juice).
General Warnings on Poisonous Food:
If the internal organs of livestock shake automatically when attached to grass, do not change color when exposed to vinegar and salt, do not soil the ground when dropped, or if dogs refuse to eat them, these substances are poisonous and can cause death.
If food containing poison is poured on the ground and causes the earth to mound up like a grave, it is lethal.
If meat broth is sealed tightly in a container such that gas cannot escape, it is lethal.
Dried meats and cooked meats should not be stored deeply in sealed containers where gas cannot escape; doing so makes them lethal.
If poisoned by any of the above, consuming 1 fangcun bi of ash water from human excrement is effective.
Formula for Treating Severe Drug Poisoning:
Goushecao (Euphorbia humifusa or similar dog-tongue herb, 1 handful, ends removed).
Boil this single ingredient in 5 sheng of water in a copper vessel to extract the juice. Use this juice to make dough and cook it into a porridge for consumption.
Formula for Persistent Drug Poisoning with Restlessness:
Gancao (Liquorice Root, 2 liang), Liangmi Fen (Millet flour, 1 sheng), Mi (Honey, 4 liang).
Boil the Gancao in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Strain the dregs. Allow the heat to subside slightly. Add the flour to the liquid and stir well. Add the white honey and simmer until it reaches a consistency like thin porridge. When the temperature is suitable, drink 1 sheng.
