If there is heat in the Spleen and Stomach, with the Qi of grains stagnating and steaming, and this is compounded by toxic heat, sudden jaundice occurs. With chest fullness and panting arising instantaneously, it is termed "Ji Huang" (Acute Jaundice).
Some patients exhibit yellowing of the body and face immediately upon contracting the disease; others are unaware initially until yellowing appears on the body after death. The manifestation where the patient presents with fever and cardiac trembling (or chills) upon onset indicates Ji Huang (Acute Jaundice).
Treatment uses: Xiaodou (Adzuki Bean), Dingxiang (Clove), Shumi (Millet), Gudi (Melon Peduncle) each 27 pieces, Shexiang (Musk), Xunluxiang (Frankincense) in equal parts (separately ground), Qingbu (Blue Cloth) two square-cun pieces (burned to ash).
Pulverize the above into a powder. Take one Qianbi (a small measuring spoon for powder) with warm water. This will induce the discharge of yellow fluid, and the jaundice will subside. Avoid raw/cold foods, cooked flour products, sticky foods, and old dry rations.
The patient's body, face, nails, and urine are all yellow, caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Formula uses: Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) each 4 Liang; Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) each 3 Liang; Longdancao (Gentianae Radix) 2 Liang.
Decoct in 9 Sheng (units of volume) of water to obtain 3 Sheng. Divide into three doses. If the body is emaciated/weak, remove Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), add Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) 5-6 Liang, and Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 1 Sheng.
The patient has yellowing of the body and eyes, headache but no fever. The etiology is latent Yang Qi, flourishing Yin Qi, and opportunistic invasion by toxic heat. Treatment should use: Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) 4 Liang; Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus [roasted]), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Tuguagen (Polymniae Radix), Daqingye (Isatidis Folium) each 3 Fen.
Pulverize and sieve these fourteen ingredients into a powder. Decoct Baomao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma) to make a drink, let it cool. In the morning on an empty stomach, take 5 Qianbi of the powder with the Baomao Gen drink. After a short while, mild diarrhea of one or two movements should occur. Afterward, eat thin Congchi Zhou (Scallion and Fermented Soybean Porridge). If diarrhea is excessive, gradually reduce the dose according to judgment. Maintain mild laxation, with one or two bowel movements as the limit. Stop when cured.
The patient exhibits yellowing of the body and eyes, mental restlessness and pain, swelling of the lower legs, yellow urine, and red spots on the face. The cause is that a person with Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption) drinks excessively and eats little grain. If the pulse is Floating, induce vomiting first; if Deep and Wiry, induce purgation first. Formula uses: Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) 7 pieces, Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 5 pieces, Xiangchi (Fermented Sojae Semen Preparatum) 1 Sheng, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 Liang.
Decoct in 6 Sheng of water to obtain 2 Sheng. Remove the dregs. Take 7 Ge (units of volume) warm, three times daily.
