Treats conditions before and after childbirth, blood and qi affected by wind-cold, as well as all diseases suffered by women; it has miraculous and effective therapeutic results.
Jinchai Shihu (Dendrobium nobile stem, 2 fen, pounded separately) Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) Guigui (Cinnamomi Cortex), peeled Ganyedi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa Semen) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata with honey), roasted Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatus), processed Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [each of the above: 1 fen] Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), eyes removed Dama Ren (Cannabis Fructus) Dadou Juan (Glycines Sojae Tegumentum, i.e., black soybean skin) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [each of the above: 2 fen] Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, clear and pure) Qilinjie (Dracaenae Sanguis) Moyao (Myrrhae Resina) Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum) [each: 1 qian 5 fen].
The above nineteen medicinal materials must be fresh and high-quality from their respective origins. Pound them finely and sieve into powder. Refine 6 liang of honey with heat; add 1 fen of water to refine together until the water is completely evaporated. Mix with the medicine powder to form pills. First pound five hundred times, then shape into pills the size of a bullet. Uniformly, seventy-two pills can be made. Use decoctions or wines as guides for administration according to the condition:
For dizziness and body tremors caused by blood and qi disturbance before and after childbirth, administer with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). For amenorrhea, administer with Danggui Jiu (Angelica Wine). For leukorrhea (red and white discharge), administer with warm wine. For difficult labor, retained placenta, fetal death in utero, breech presentation leading to death, unconsciousness without speech, if head warmth and residual breath are present, take one pill, grind it in Xiong Zao Tang (Ligusticum and Jujube Decoction), and instill into the mouth. Once swallowed, consciousness returns immediately; this is miraculous. For postpartum retention of lochia, umbilical and abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, aversion to cold, restlessness, irregular menstruation (scanty or excessive), edema, persistent postpartum bleeding, consumptive disease, stroke, trismus with inability to speak, hemiplegia, red and white dysentery before and after childbirth, constipation, blood thirst, syncope due to blood loss, delirium with hallucinations, headache, sallow complexion, gradual emaciation, and loss of taste, dissolve one pill in water (no need for ash wine) and swallow, or take five to seven pills. Taking these before labor prevents visceral pain and facilitates easy delivery for both mother and child; its efficacy is beyond description. To induce labor, administer with Danggui Jiu (Angelica Wine). For postpartum stroke and blood syncope, boil Shengdihuang Zhi (Fresh Rehmanniae Juice) for ten boils, grind one pill, and instill; recovery is immediate. For wind prevention, chew one pill every five days on an empty stomach with hot wine, or after bathing; alternatively, chew one pill with warm wine. For infantile convulsions (Tian Diao Jing Feng), administer with Bohe Jiu (Mint Wine), dividing one pill into three doses. For stroke with aphasia and sudden rigidity like a board, mix Xiao Li (a type of pear) and good-quality mint pulp, grind together, take one pill hot, cover with blankets, wait for sweating, then gradually uncover, avoid wind exposure while sitting or lying down; recovery is immediate. For all diseases in women, grind one pill with warm wine, Danggui, and Bohe; recovery is immediate.
The "Chanbao" formulas state: Avoid raw, cold, greasy foods, fish, and chicken. Decoctions and wines should be taken at a warm temperature. Before delivery and within one month postpartum, prepare according to this formula. This is one method. The "Boji Fang" uses Qilinjie, Moyao, and Longnao. Recent physicians argue that Xuejie (Dracaenae Sanguis) and Moyao have blood-breaking properties and should not be taken before childbirth. If compounding, follow the Imperial Medical Bureau standard formula, excluding these three ingredients, keeping other proportions the same; this allows use before and after childbirth. This is another method. After initial delivery, make small pills for consumption. This is yet another method. Within five to seven days after initial delivery, when qi is deficient, honey pills may disperse in the chest and diaphragm, potentially causing deficiency heat. Therefore, for one batch of medicine, half can be made into Nuohu Wan (Glutinous Rice Paste Pills). Nuohu Wan can be taken from initial delivery up to two months later. Shape pills like tung seeds, divide into thirty-six doses.
