The *Lun Bi* (Treatise on Obstruction) states: In cases of Bao Bi (Bladder Obstruction), there is internal pain upon pressing the lower abdomen and bladder region, a sensation as if scalded by hot water, difficulty in urination, and clear nasal discharge from above. The Bladder is known as the "Official of the Metropolis," where body fluids are stored; it is through Qi transformation that they can be excreted. Currently, when Wind-Cold-Damp pathogenic factors invade the Bao (Bladder/Uterus), Qi cannot transform and excrete, resulting in fullness of the Bao and obstruction of the water passages. The manifestations include internal pain upon pressing the lower abdomen and bladder region, a sensation as if scalded by hot water, and difficulty in urination. This is because the straight pathway of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian ascends to intersect at the vertex, enters and connects with the brain, and descends to irrigate the nasal orifices, thus causing clear nasal discharge.

An excellent method for treating urinary retention where various medicines have failed, or for critical danger due to "Zhuanbao" (displacement of the uterus/bladder) leading to death: this method causes spontaneous urination and recovery. Use one pig bladder, make a small hole at the bottom, pass a feather tube through it, place it inside the hole, and secure the root with a thin thread. Fix the mouth of the feather tube with a thin stick. Seal the mouth of the bladder with yellow wax above. Blow air into it until it is seven-tenths full, tie it securely. Then pinch the root of the feather tube with your hand, apply wax, and plug the tube. Place the opening into the urethra. Release the root of the feather tube and squeeze the air with your hand to force it inside. Urine will flow out immediately. This has great efficacy.

[Ziyin Huaqi Tang (Nourishing Yin and Transforming Qi Decoction)] treats dysuria or unbearable stuffiness and pain below the umbilicus due to excessive intake of hot medicines, which do not respond to other treatments. If daytime urination is obstructed, add Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma).
Hlian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) [equal parts]
The above are cut into small pieces. Take three qian per dose, add two dan of water, decoct until one dan remains, strain, and take warm before meals.
Discussion: Question: How can benefit be achieved? Answer: Without Yang, Yin cannot be generated; without Yin, Yang cannot transform. It is also said that the Bladder is the mansion of body fluids, and they are excreted through Qi transformation. Excessive intake of hot medicines leads to loss of Yin. These two herbs assist in nourishing Yin, allowing Qi to transform, thus enabling urination. Some use Zishen Wan (Kidney-Nourishing Pill), which acts even faster.
