Damp-heat (Shi Re) stagnates in the skin, lingering for a long time without dissipating, manifesting as macules that are mixed black and white, covering the body like floral patterns. In severe cases, it transforms into purple and white wind-macules (Zi Bai Feng Ban). Although it causes no severe pain or life-threatening harm, one must not fail to nip it in the bud and prevent its progression.
Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikia Universal Relief Powder): Treats sweat-spots with both internal and external heat. (See formula under "Wind Gate".)
Xuanshen Shengma Tang (Scrophulariae and Cimicifugae Decoction): Treats the same condition. (See formula under "Macule and Dan Gate".)
Another prescription: Cut white eggplants into segments, dip them in sulfur powder (Liu Huang) and Fuzi powder (Bai Fuzi), and rub the affected area. It heals after three applications. The first application turns the spots black; the second and third turn them white and heal them.
Another prescription: Rub ginger slices dipped in arsenic trioxide powder (Xin Mo) and lead oxide powder (Tuo Seng) onto the area for a long time. Wash with urine, then wash with clear water. It heals after three applications.
The Classics state: True Heart Pain (Zhen Xin Tong) occurs when cold pathogen (Han Xie) injures the Monarch of the Heart. Symptoms include cyanosis of hands and feet extending to the joints. In severe cases, death may occur from morning to evening or from evening to morning. Jue Heart Pain (Jue Xin Tong) occurs when cold pathogen lodges in the Pericardium Collateral (Xin Bao Luo).
The *Suwen: Ju Tong Lun* states: When cold qi invades the back-Shu vessels, blood vessels become stagnant. Stagnation leads to blood deficiency, and deficiency leads to pain. Since the Shu points connect to the heart, the pain radiates and pulls. Pressing the area brings warmth, stopping the pain. If exposed to cold again, the pain becomes chronic.
The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian separates from the stomach, ascends through the diaphragm, and enters the heart. When this meridian is disturbed, symptoms include a stiff tongue root, vomiting after eating, epigastric pain, abdominal distension, frequent belching, and urgent pain in the heart region. Stomach disease manifests as abdominal distension, epigastric pain centered at the xiphoid process, radiation to the hypochondrium, and obstruction of the chest, diaphragm, and throat.
The *Mai Jing* states: Worry and overthinking injure the Heart, leading to fright, surprise, forgetfulness, and irritability. A person with injured Heart Qi feels fatigue, redness of the face and head, heaviness of the lower body, and penetrating heart pain radiating to the back. The pulse is wiry (Xian). This is caused by Heart injury.
The *Bing Ji Yao Yao* states: All types of heart pain are due to the counter-flow of Qi from the Shaoyin and Jueyin meridians. There is Heat-Jue Heart Pain, characterized by body heat but cold feet. Severe pain causes irritability and vomiting, with spontaneous sweating on the forehead, indicating a Heat syndrome. The pulse is floating, large, and surging. Moxibustion should be applied to Taixi (KI3) and Kunlun (BL60), representing simultaneous draining of exterior and interior. For heat diseases where sweat does not emerge, guiding heat downward via bowel movement allows general sweating, leading to recovery. After moxibustion, Jinlingzi San (Corydalis and Chaenomelis Powder) is taken to cure. After pain stops, Zhizhu Wan (Immature Bitter Orange and Atractylodes Pill) is taken to eliminate residual pathogens. There is Fire-Excess Heart Pain, caused by Qi stagnation and food retention, causing sudden pain. Stool may be constipated. Prolonged stagnation causes fullness and bulging of the chest and heart region, relieved by pressure but preventing eating. Urgent purgation is required, followed by the main decoction to clear residual pathogens. There is Cold-Jue Heart Pain, characterized by cold extremities, cold sweat all over the body, clear and profuse urination and defecation, or loose stools without thirst, with weak breath and energy. Shuzhifu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction) should be used urgently to warm and dispel cold. Acute Cold-Jue pain is not a chronic illness; if it strikes in the morning and kills by evening, emergency rescue is needed. Thus, chronic illnesses usually lack heat signs, while acute illnesses are rarely due to cold. The treatments for Cold-Heat Jue pain and Great Excess Heart Pain have been detailed above. Additionally, heart pain suffered by those with chronic Qi and Blood deficiency, or by those who are chronically overworked and emaciated, belongs to Deficiency Pain. Therefore, Qian Yi advocated using roasted salt to tonify Heart deficiency. *Bencao Tujing* and *Bencao Yanyi* record Oyster Shell (Muli) treating heart pain, confirming that oyster shell powder and salt are appropriate.
