Epistaxis in women is also caused by the injury and disturbance of Qi and Blood. When Qi and Blood are harmonious, they circulate through the exterior and interior meridians, remaining contained within the vessels without leaking. However, if labor or injury causes the movement of Qi and Blood, generating internal heat that rebels upward and flows into the nasal cavity, epistaxis (nosebleed) occurs. Epistaxis occurring postpartum is considered difficult to treat.
