*Taiping Shenghui Fang* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao (a general term for lower limb swelling, pain, numbness, etc., similar to modern rheumatoid arthritis or gout) and Bi syndrome caused by wind-cold-damp pathogenic factors, with limbs in spasm and curling, and feet so swollen that they cannot touch the ground. Take one liang of Perilla Fructus (Zisu), crush it, add two sheng of water, grind and extract the juice. Use the juice of Perilla Seed (Suzi) to cook two he of Coix Seed (Jingmi) into a porridge, and consume it with Scallion and Fermented Soybean (Congchi) and fresh ginger.
Another method: For treating Hongxiangjiao, stir-fry salt until hot and apply it as a compress to the affected area; after a short while, wash with hot water.
*Waitai Miyao* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao where the pathogen rushes upward causing heart vexation and restlessness. Place one or two dou of millet rice straw inside a cauldron, boil with plenty of water to obtain a thick decoction, remove the dregs, add one sheng of powdered Zanthoxylum (Jiaofen), and boil again for more than ten boils. Pour into a basin and soak/wash the feet three to five times until cured.
*Weisheng Fang* records: For treating Hongxiangjiao, use powdered Hematite (Wumingyi) melted with Bovis Colla (Niuji), mix evenly, and apply to the painful area.
Another method: For unbearable pain from Hongxiangjiao, use urine from a young boy (Tongbian) or adult urine. Place one toilet bucket, heat the urine, and immerse both feet. Cover the mouth of the bucket with paper or thin clothing to isolate the steam; reheat when it cools.
*Jianyao Jizhong Fang* records: For Hongxiangjiao with persistent redness, swelling, and pain not healing over time. A Daoist priest instructed him to drink cow urine (Niuniao), drinking two to three sheng frequently, until urination became smooth, resulting in a cure.
*Qianjin Fang* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao in Lingnan, where swelling extends from the feet to the shins and knees, involving bone pain. Cut Ricinus Communis Leaves (Bimaye), steam until hot, wrap thinly around the affected area for two to three days, changing as needed; swelling will subside.
