夫十二支为十二月,则正月寅二月卯是也。甲己之岁,正月建丙寅;乙庚之岁,正月建戊寅;

金对应素色,位于亢、氐、昴、毕等星宿之前;
水对应玄色,位于张、冀、娄、胃等星宿之间;
木对应苍色,位于危、室、柳、鬼等星宿之中;
火对应丹色,位于牛、女、奎、壁等星宿之旁;
[Diagram of the Origin Examples of Heavenly Five Movements]
Establishment of Movements by the Qi of the Five Heavens
The Qi of the Five Elements scatters and flows into the five directions of Heaven, recorded in the Five Heavens (referring to five sectors or asterism regions in the sky), and thus named to establish the laws of the Five Movements (Wu Yun).
The verse says:
Metal corresponds to the white color, located before the stars Kang, Di, Mao, and Bi;
Water corresponds to the black color, located among the stars Zhang, Ji, Lou, and Wei;
Wood corresponds to the blue/green color, located within the stars Wei, Shi, Liu, and Gui;
Fire corresponds to the red color, located beside the stars Niu, Nu, Kui, and Bi;
Earth corresponds to the yellow color, located below the degrees of the stars Xin, Wei, Jiao, and Zhen (this is the position of the movement), corresponding upwards to the celestial spheres.
Verse on Starting Movements and Transforming Qi by the Ten Heavenly Stems
In years of Jia and Ji, the Earth Movement prevails; in years of Yi and Geng, the Metal Movement prevails; in years of Ding and Ren, the Wood Movement takes its place.
In years of Bing and Xin, the transforming Qi often resides in Water; in years of Wu and Gui, one must seek the Fire Movement.
The Five Elements transformed by the Ten Heavenly Stems are generated and transformed by the Qi of the Five Heavens descending upon their respective positions. Some say that among the twelve zodiac animals, only the Dragon (Chen) is good at transformation; for each position, when the stem-branch count reaches three and encounters Chen, it transforms according to its affiliation (e.g., from Jia Yin to Bing Chen transforms into Water; from Bing Yin to Wu Chen transforms into Fire). Others say that Jia (Yang Wood) controls Ji (Yin Earth), like a husband and wife, thereby forming Earth; Yi (Yin Wood) marries Geng (Yang Metal), thereby forming Metal; Ding (Yin Fire) pairs with Ren (Yang Water), thereby forming Wood; Bing (Yang Fire) marries the ultimate Yin Metal, thereby forming Water; Wu (Yang Earth) marries Gui (Yin Water), thereby forming Fire. These two theories have similar meanings but their principles are not naturally inherent.
The twelve Earthly Branches represent the twelve months, such as the first month being Yin and the second month being Mao. In years of Jia and Ji, the first month establishes Bing Yin; in years of Yi and Geng, the first month establishes Wu Yin; in years of Bing and Xin, the first month establishes Geng Yin; in years of Ding and Ren, the first month establishes Ren Yin; in years of Wu and Gui, the first month establishes Jia Yin. This uses the Ten Heavenly Stems established upon Yin. Observing this method, starting with the Jia Zi year, it is because within the sixty Jia Zi cycle, those established first are established first, and those established subsequently are established subsequently. Thus, Bing Yin is primary, and Wu Yin is secondary; following the order of precedence and rotation makes this visible. [In the diagram of the Melodic Nature of the First Sixty Jia Zi...] (Once the establishment of positions is completed, it returns above to connect its chronology, which clarifies the meaning. The method of applying the Day Stem to the Hour Establishment is the same. If it is a deficient year of an Yin Movement in the Five Movements, when the Great Cold solar term transitions to the First Qi, if the Hour Stem established on that day matches the Year Stem, it is called "Gan De Fu" (Harmony of Stems), which should be considered as Ping Qi (Balanced Qi), neither excessive nor deficient. This is briefly mentioned to illustrate its application; the diagram follows.)
