The above seventy-two herbs are used at five qian each, all cut into coarse slices. Soak them in twelve jin of pure sesame oil. Soak for three days in summer, half a month in winter. Decoct until the herbs are black and crisp. Filter through a piece of hemp cloth to remove dregs. Weigh the oil again. If there are ten-plus jin of oil, add five jin of calcined lead monoxide (Guofei Huangdan); if eight jin, add four jin of Huangdan. Add the lead oxide according to the quantity; there will be no error. Return the oil to the pot and boil. Slowly add the Huangdan while stirring constantly with a locust or willow stick. Use gentle fire first, then strong fire. The plaster is ready when a drop forms a bead that does not disperse in water. It should be hard in spring/summer and soft in autumn/winter; this is the secret rule. Store in porcelain vessels. Add fine herbs before use.
Fine Herbs: Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang), Myrrha (Moyao), Dragon's Blood (Xuexie), Calomelas (Qingfen), Camphora (Chaonao/Zhangnao), Borneolum Syntheticum (Pian nao), Moschus (Shexiang), Os Draconis (Longgu), Sepiae Endoconcha (Haipiaoxiao), Halloysit Rubrum (Chishizhi).
Grind these ten fine herbs into powder and store in porcelain. Sprinkle a small amount onto the plaster when applying. It promotes tissue regeneration, relieves pain, regulates blood and qi, and dispels wind-dampness, which is very effective.
