（雄黄）有毒。能破除积滞，止痹痛，消散脓毒。这是指麻花上蓬勃生长的部分。七月七日采集，效果最佳。
（白薇）无毒。主治中风汗出，逐水饮，通利小便，破除瘀血，恢复血脉，治疗乳妇产后的余疾，促进头发生长，可作为洗头用药。长期服用可成神仙。九月采集。生长在土中的会伤害人。产于太山。（畏惧牡蛎、白薇，厌恶茯苓。）

（丹砂/朱砂）味辛，性平，有毒。主治镇摄精神，坚固骨髓，通利五脏，祛除邪毒瓦斯，服用后可成神仙。产于益州，随时可采。
（雄黄）味辛，性平，有毒。主治安养五脏，安定心神，止惊悸，祛除邪气，长期服用可使身体轻盈长寿。产于永昌，随时可采。
（雌黄）味甘，性大温，有毒。主治疥虫引起的疮疡，目痛，鼻中息肉，以及断筋、折骨、全身关节中的积聚痞块，癖气，中恶，腹痛，鬼疰（一种传染病），杀灭各种蛇虺毒，解除藜芦毒，使面色悦泽光亮。内服后，药力皆飞入心中，胜过鬼神，延年益寿，保持体内不饥。遇到铜可以炼成金。产于武都、敦煌山的南面，随时可采。
(Hu Ma) Non-toxic. Strengthens sinews and bones, treats metal wounds (trauma caused by sharp metal instruments), alleviates pain, and treats cold damage, warm malaria, as well as deficiency-heat, emaciation, and exhaustion after severe vomiting. Long-term consumption clarifies the ears and eyes, increases resistance to hunger, and prolongs life. When made into oil, it is slightly cold. It promotes bowel movement and expels the placenta. Fresh Hu Ma applied topically treats sores and swelling; used for treating alopecia. Also known as Goushi, Fangjing, or Hongzang. Produced in Shangdang region.

(Xiong Huang) Toxic. Breaks down accumulations, relieves bi-syndrome (painful obstruction), and disperses pus. This refers to the part where hemp flowers grow vigorously. Collected on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month for best efficacy.
(Bai Wei) Non-toxic. Primarily treats sweating due to wind-stroke, expels water retention, promotes urination, breaks up blood stasis, restores blood vessels, treats residual postpartum conditions in women, promotes hair growth, and can be used as a hair-washing medicine. Long-term consumption leads to immortality. Collected in September. Those growing underground harm humans. Produced in Taishan. (Aversion to Muli and Baiwei; aversion to Fuling.)

(Gan Cao) Sweet in taste, slightly warm in nature. Primarily treats deficiency and fatigue, stops thirst, and removes blood stasis.
(Dan Sha) Pungent in taste, neutral in nature, toxic. Primarily calms the spirit, strengthens bone marrow, unblocks the five zang organs, eliminates pathogenic toxins and vapors. Consumption leads to immortality. Produced in Yizhou, available for collection at any time.
(Xiong Huang) Pungent in taste, neutral in nature, toxic. Primarily nourishes the five zang organs, stabilizes the mind and spirit, stops palpitations and fright, eliminates pathogenic factors. Long-term consumption makes the body light and prolongs life. Produced in Yongchang, available for collection at any time.
(Ci Huang) Sweet in taste, greatly warm in nature, toxic. Primarily treats scabies caused by mites, sores, eye pain, nasal polyps, tendon rupture, bone fracture, accumulations and masses in all joints, pi-qig (masses), evil invasion, abdominal pain, gu-zhu (a type of infectious disease), kills various snake and viper venoms, resolves Lulu toxicity, and beautifies the complexion. After ingestion, the medicinal power enters the heart, surpassing spirits and gods, prolongs life and health, maintains satiety without hunger. With copper, it can be transmuted into gold.
