Taiping Yulan (Comprehensive Mirror of the Taiping Era), Volume 841: Shennong, Huangdi, and Leigong state that it is non-toxic. It can be harvested at any time. To remove facial blemishes, it is best to combine it with Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Wuwei (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Xingzi (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Muli (Ostreae Concha), Tianxiong (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), and Shushi (Mus Cardis), mixed with honey. It should not be used together with Haizao (Sargassum) or Longdan (Gentianae Radix). This method refers to the yellow sprouts of soybeans when they first emerge from the soil (i.e., Da Dou Huang Juan, Germinatus Sojae Helvae Semen).

Taiping Yulan, Volume 840: Shennong and Huangdi state that it is bitter and non-toxic. It treats bi syndrome accompanied by fever and thirst. Su (Setaria italica) nourishes kidney qi.

Taiping Yulan, Volume 842: Shennong states that it is sweet and non-toxic. Harvest in July and dry in the shade. It benefits the middle jiao and supplements qi.

Taiping Yulan, Volume 838: Also known as Mai (Barley). Among the five grains, it is characterized by vigorous growth. It is non-toxic. It treats xiao ke (wasting-thirst syndrome), clears heat, and supplements qi. Honey is used as an adjuvant or vehicle for consumption.

Taiping Yulan, Volume 838: Also known as Xiao Mai (Wheat). It is non-toxic and treats diarrhea without causing adverse effects to the interior (or treats beneficial conditions without harming the center).

Beitang Shuchao (Book of Northern Hall), Volume 146: It supplements human qi.

Taiping Yulan, Volume 841: Also known as Yinglei and Fuyue. Shennong states that it is sweet and non-toxic. Harvest in July and dry in the shade for forty days. It treats headache and relieves thirst.
