It is stated that wind-stroke with fever manifests as absence of sweating on the body, vexatious pain in the limbs and joints, abdominal urgency, and difficulty in urination and defecation. This is because the pathogenic Wind factor lodges within, causing the skin and pores to become closed and dense, leading to dryness inside.
For treating wind-stroke with fever, absence of sweating, vexatious pain in the limbs and joints, internal abdominal urgent pain, and constipation with difficult urination and defecation, use Fangfeng Yin (Wind-Protecting Drink):
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, forked parts removed), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, sliced and dried), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed, decocted first, scum skimmed off, then dried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chifuling (Poria cum Ligno, black skin removed), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, cracked, processed, skin and umbilicus removed), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, each 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, crushed and stir-fried, each 3 qian).
The above twelve ingredients are crushed like hemp seeds. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi (approx. 5-7 grams depending on era measurement), added with 1.5 sheng (approx. 200-300 ml) of water, 2 dates split open, and 0.5 fen (approx. 1-2 grams) of sliced fresh ginger. Decoct until reduced to 8/10 volume, strain, and take warm. Take once on an empty stomach in the morning and once in the evening.
For treating wind-stroke with fever, dizziness and headache, loss of voice and inability to speak, coarse and rapid breathing, deviation of the mouth with salivation, and paralysis of the hands and feet, use Mahuang Yin (Ephedra Drink):
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed, decocted first, scum skimmed off, then dried, 2 liang), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, forked parts removed), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, each 1.5 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed, 3 liang), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix [Note: Original text cuts off after 'Qiang', inferred as Qianghuo based on context]).
The above seven ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi, added with 1.5 sheng of water. Decoct until reduced to 8/10 volume, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach, twice daily. If there is trismus, cold numbness of the jaw, or a stiff tongue, add one Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), peeled and de-umbilicated, along with a small amount of Zhuli (Bambusae Succus). If thirsty, add 1.5 liang of Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, note: original says Maidong but lists Xuan Shen parameters? No, original says Maidong Qu Xin 1.5 liang, Xi Jiao 1 liang. Correcting: Add 1.5 liang of Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed) and 1 liang of Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, note: modern substitutes often used, but term is Xi Jiao) powder.
For treating wind-stroke with headache, red face, fever, aversion to wind, vexation and oppression, and body pain as if shattered, use Fangfeng Tang (Wind-Protecting Decoction):
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, forked parts removed), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, rough bark removed, each 1 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, seedlings and leaves removed, 0.5 liang), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle, each 1 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed, boiled, scum skimmed off, 3 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed, 2 liang).
The above nine ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi, added with 1.5 sheng of water and 2 split dates. Decoct until reduced to 8/10 volume, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach, twice daily.
For treating wind-stroke with headache, vexatious heat, dry mouth, and red urine, use Shigao Tang (Gypsum Decoction):
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed, 3 qian), Huashi (Talcum, 0.5 liang), Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, crushed), Luba Cao (Herba Speranskiae tuberculatae, note: 'Xu' likely refers to Luba or similar diuretic herb, original says 'Xu' cut, likely typo for Lu Cao or similar, strictly translating character 'Xu' as Xu [Plant Name]), crushed, each 3 qian).
The above four ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 3 qianbi, added with 1 sheng of water. Decoct until reduced to 7/10 volume, strain, and take hot after meals.
For treating wind-stroke with fever, headache, vertigo, dry throat, stiff tongue base, chest and back pain and oppression, fullness and obstruction in the heart and diaphragm, and stiffness and urgency of the waist and spine, use Weirui Tang (Polygonatum Decoction):
Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Baiwei (Cleomidis Radix, dried), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed, decocted, scum removed, then dried), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, rhizome removed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, soaked in water, skin and tips removed... [Text cuts off here, implying remaining ingredients follow]).
The above ten ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi, added with 1.5 sheng of water. Decoct until reduced to 8/10 volume, strain, and take warm. Take two doses, one on an empty stomach and one before bedtime.
To induce sweating.
