Commentary states that the throat is the pathway for respiration and the route through which Qi ascends and descends; the uvula (the fleshy projection hanging from the soft palate) serves as the gate for voice production. If latent heat exists within the Zang-Fu organs, Qi attacks upward against the throat and pharynx, causing Qi and Blood to stagnate and obstruct, knotting at the uvula. The toxic heat fails to dissipate, resulting in swelling, pain, and a sensation of obstruction affecting breathing and swallowing. In severe cases, it may grow several inches long, protruding in and out with the opening and closing of the throat, making eating and breathing impossible; urgent treatment is required.
Ganjiang San (Dried Ginger Powder) for treating uvular swelling with polyp formation:
Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum, dried ginger prepared by cracking) 1 fen; Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed seven times in hot water) 1 fen.
The above two ingredients are crushed, sifted into a powder, mixed with Yan Chi (Salted Fermented Soybeans), and applied to the affected area.

The above single ingredient is boiled to extract juice for holding in the mouth, or mixed with Yan Chi and applied topically.
Another formula:

Tong Zi Xiao Nian (Child's Urine, from a four- or five-year-old child) one he.
The above single ingredient is held in the mouth along with two copper coins.
Formula for treating uvular swelling growing several inches long, protruding with the throat, and inability to eat:

If any root remains, gradually cauterize again, then apply salt to the cauterized site.
