It is discussed that the manifestation of tight lips (Jin Chun) shares the same root cause as lip sores (Chun Chuang). If the lip sore has not yet healed, heat accumulates in the Stomach, and is further constrained by wind-dampness, causing swelling of the lips. The sores become tight and painful, weeping yellow fluid due to dampness, and fail to heal for a long time; this condition is called "tight lips." The *Mai Jing* (Pulse Classic), discussing diseases generated by the Foot-Yangming Meridian, states: "Tightness of the lips." This is because the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian runs alongside the mouth and encircles the lips; when wind-heat pathogens lodge there, it results in the disease of tight lips. Medical texts also refer to tight lips as "Shen Chun" (Deep/Sunken Lips).
