Commentary states: Blood and Qi flow smoothly when warm, but coagulate and stagnate when cold. "Jieqiang within the abdomen" (abdominal hardness and rigidity with palpable masses) occurs because wind-cold pathogenic factors accumulate in the abdomen, coagulating and failing to dissipate. They clash with healthy Qi, moving up and down. Upon palpation, a root may be felt, resembling an inverted cup. Ingestion of cold food causes abdominal hardness and fullness, hindering diet. If the pathogen remains for a long time, it transforms into "Jiejia" (abdominal masses that are fixed in place and painful).
