If the root organ (Kidney) is full and solid, then Essence and Spirit will resonate with each other, and Blood and Qi will flow smoothly. With internal stability, how could disease arise? Wait until the medicine jar glows red nine-tenths of the way, and blue flames appear at the seam. Immediately remove fire, cover with three dou of moist ash until cool. Open the jar to retrieve the medicine, scrape off the sediment and turbidity at the bottom. Repeat the refining process according to the previous method, totaling five refinements to complete. The medicine is ready when it smells like a chicken egg (for urgent use, three refinements suffice). Remove the jar, bury in moist earth overnight. Then boil in water for half a day. Retrieve the medicine and grind with a willow wood pestle, frequently adding drops of water. Wait until shaking reveals no residue, then grind until dry. For every one corner of medicine, use one liang of steamed cake, soak in water, pound together, form pills, and dry in the sun. The old prescription for Jinye Dan treats many diseases, primarily treating Qi exhaustion. Generally, for chronic illnesses causing weakness and fatigue, prolonged vomiting and diarrhea that do not heal, elderly people with constipation, Taiyang disease with faint pulse, Yin-Jue (Cold Reversal) and similar conditions, all are caused by Qi exhaustion. Taking this elixir often leads to recovery. Adults take dozens to hundreds of pills; children's dosage should be adjusted accordingly, all taken with porridge drink. For severely exhausted patients, dissolve and administer orally. For children suffering from prolonged vomiting and diarrhea nearing death, where neither medicine nor milk can be retained, give dozens of pills; they often recover from near-death states.
