It is stated that swallowing various foreign objects, such as gold and silver needles or hooks, although the pathogen does not originate from within the body, if there is no method to remove them, they will harm the person over time. Just as using an old comb to detangle hair or using lodestone (Ci Shi) to extract needles relies on mental guidance rather than merely the properties and flavors of herbs, the therapeutic skills involved can be considered exquisitely meticulous.
For treating foreign objects stuck in the throat that cannot be expelled: Sucheng San Formula (Sage-like Powder).
Trichosanthis Fructus (Gualou, taking two pieces of the pulp) Prunus armeniaca Seed (Xingren, peeled, tips removed, double kernels, stir-fried, 1.5 liang) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, honey-fried, 3 fen) Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina (Zaojia, honey-fried, 1 cun, ground into powder together with Gancao).
Take the above four ingredients. First, grind Gualou and Xingren until mushy. Then add the powders of Gancao and Zaojia, mix to form cake-like shapes, stir-fry in a pan until dry, and pound again into fine powder. Take one qianbi per dose, mixed with one qianbi of aged tea leaves (Lacha), taken with water. Add a small amount of yellow beeswax (Huangla), boil with one sheng of water until reduced to seven parts. It may be taken hot. If ineffective, take another dose.
For treating swallowed gold, silver items, or coins that do not pass through the abdomen:
Anthracite (Shitan, select bright ones, size of an apricot kernel) Sulfur (Liu Huang, size of a soap pod).
Grind the above two ingredients together into powder, mix with wine for administration, at any time.
For treating hooks or ropes swallowed and stuck in the throat:
If the hook or rope is in hand, do not pull it. Instead, add smooth substances such as pearls or Coicis Semen (Yiyiren), thread them onto the rope, and gently push towards the hook. A slight pull will cause it to exit.
For treating beads or copper coins swallowed and stuck in the throat:
Nucopper tooth (Nu Tong Ya, the bronze trigger of a crossbow).
Burn this single ingredient until red-hot, immerse it in wine, and drink the wine; the object will be immediately expelled.
For treating swallowed needles and arrowheads:
Fat pork lard/meat (Fei Zhu Zhi Rou, quantity unrestricted).
Cook this single ingredient until soft and tender, eat to fullness; the object will pass down.
For treating swallowed needles:
Magnetitum (Ci Shi, size of a bullet).
Hold this single ingredient in the mouth, and it will be expelled.
For treating swallowed coins that cannot be expelled:
Malvae Verticillatae Herba (Kuicai, quantity unrestricted).
Extract the juice from this single ingredient, chill it, and drink; the coin will be expelled.
It is stated: Worry and anger cause qi labor, leading to stagnation without dispersion, as if entangled; this is how goiter (Ying) arises. There are also cases caused by drinking sandy water, where the pathogen enters the vessels with qi and remains under the neck. Furthermore, people living in mountains often suffer from goiter of the neck because they dwell in rugged terrain. Initially, the disease presents with throat obstruction, wandering qi moving back and forth, gradually coming to a standstill. The symptoms indicate that acupuncture treatment is applicable.
