Indicated for coma and loss of consciousness caused by heatstroke (Zhongshu), as well as diarrhea, cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea, irritability, and thirst. One dose leads to recovery and can resolve heat toxicity.
Bai Fan (Alumen, 1 liang, raw), Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis, 3 qian, raw), Wu Mei (Fructus Mume, 2 liang, crushed and pits removed), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1.5 liang, honey-fried; another version uses raw), Fei Luo Mian (Fine Wheat Flour, 1 liang; another version suggests flour made on Qingming Festival, which is superior).
Grind the above into fine powder, mix evenly with Fei Luo Mian. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with newly drawn water.
Another version adds He Zi Rou (Endocarpus Chebulae), forms pills with water drops, size like a bullet, chew thoroughly and swallow with water. Named Long Xian Wan (Dragon Saliva Pill). This is a drastic phlegm-resolving agent and should not be used for mild cases.
This refers to Guiling Ganlu Yin (Cinnamon Twig and Poria Decoction), with added Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Xiang Ru (Herba Moslae), and Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) decocted together. The treatment method is the same as mentioned previously.
Indicated for Qi deficiency injured by summerheat, characterized by a deficient pulse and weak physique.
Huang Qi (Radix Astragali, 1.5 qian, honey-fried), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 0.5 qian each, honey-fried), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 0.7 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 0.8 qian, stir-fried with soil), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 0.3 qian), Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 0.3 qian), Guang Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, retaining the white pith, 1 qian).

Another version includes Bai Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 0.5 qian), which is not used in autumn and winter; Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri, 0.3 qian) to nourish Kidney Water and drain latent fire; add Hong Long (likely referring to a specific preparation or herb, contextually linked to nourishing Heart Blood, 0.3 qian).
Take all ingredients as one dose, decoct with water, and take slightly warm before noon.
Warm tonification may inadvertently assist Fire, leading to drowsiness; it must be combined with Lian Gao (Forsythia Paste) to be effective.
Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 7 qian, peeled), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Ben Cao (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma - *Note: Text says 'Ben', likely Ligusticum*), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Yun Fu Ling (Poria, peeled), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 5 qian each, honey-fried).
Cut the ingredients coarsely. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with 1.5 cups of water until reduced to 0.8 cup. Take again after some time. Stop when bowel movement is achieved.
This is a purgative formula. It should only be used if there is accumulation from raw/cold foods or wheat products.
Lin's Commentary: In treating summerheat, Liuhe Tang (Six Harmonies Decoction) and Xiangru Yin (Mosla Drink) are primarily used. These two formulas are intended for external contraction of Wind-Cold and internal injury from raw/cold food during summer months, and cannot be universally applied to all summerheat conditions. Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) is indicated for Taiyang disease or Wind-stroke presenting with exterior and interior syndromes and thirst, aiming to vaporize Bladder fluids, promote Yang Qi, and distribute fluid essence; it is a formula for treating Dampness. Jiuwei Qianghuo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction) and Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxifying Powder) are acrid-warm and ascending/dispersing. Sweating is contraindicated in Summerheat-Dampness, so users must exercise caution. Dashun San (Great Harmony Powder) treats internal injury from drinking cold substances during summer, not summerheat itself. Applying it to treat Summerheat Syncope or Dry-Fire diseases may cause premature death. Even if the pulse is hidden, limbs are cold, sweating is profuse, and the tongue is moist, one should use Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) and Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) to restore Yang. One must absolutely not rely solely on drying-hot herbs like Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex). Furthermore, if Heat Syncope leads to collapse of Yang, and the differentiation is inaccurate, even Ren Shen and Fu Zi can be fatal. How can one not be cautious? The several formulas added in this revision are listed below.
