[Discussion] The Lower Jiao functions like a ditch (du refers to a ditch, indicating the discharge of water). Its qi originates from the lower epigastrium of the Stomach, diverges into the ileum, and pours into the Bladder where it seeps in.
Therefore, food and drink usually reside together in the Stomach to form waste, which then descends together into the Large Intestine. The Large Intestine governs the Foot-Taiyang channel, infuses and渗 (seeps) fluids, combines with the Bladder, and primarily governs excretion rather than intake, separating clear from turbid, and governing pathological manifestations related to the Liver and Kidney. In excess conditions, there is difficulty in urination and defecation, rebellious qi that fails to descend, and uncontrollable vomiting, known as "Zou Bu" (running feeding/overflowing). In deficiency conditions, there is incontinence of urine and feces, and exhaustion of fluids and qi. When a person drinks alcohol, it enters the Stomach, yet urine is excreted before the grain is digested. Why? Because alcohol is the fluid of cooked grain. Its qi is fierce and slippery, so although it enters the stomach after the grain, it exits before the grain. Thus, in heat conditions, the Liver is purged; in cold conditions, the Kidney is tonified.
