Treat deficiency-heat, where urination is clear and frequent, caused by excessive consumption of mineral powders (Shisan), leading to human deficiency-heat. It addresses Hongjiaojiao (Gouty arthritis/foot swelling) contracted from exposure to wind and cold or seeking coolness, which tends to flare up accompanied by thirst and Xiao Shen (Kidney involvement in Xiao Ke disease).
Ejiao (Donkey-hide gelatin, two sticks)
Hemp seed (Mazi, one sheng)
Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi, one piece)
Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, two liang)
Polygala Root (Yuanzhi, four liang)
Grind the above five herbs into powder. Add seven sheng of water, boil until reduced to two and a half sheng, strain out the dregs, add the Ejiao to melt it, and divide into three doses. It is said: When urination is clear and frequent, occurring dozens of times a day and night, amounting to one dan, frequent administration for five days yields good results.
Discussion states: For patients with Xiao Ke disease (Diabetes mellitus-like condition) lasting more than one hundred days, moxibustion and acupuncture are contraindicated. If applied, pus and fluid will leak continuously from the sores, eventually leading to carbuncles and ulcers, emaciation, and death. One must also avoid accidental injury; even a wound as small as a needle prick will cause all ingested fluids to turn into pus and discharge from the wound. If the discharge does not stop, death is inevitable. Exercise utmost caution. For newly onset cases, moxibustion and acupuncture may be performed according to the prescription.
To treat Xiao Ke causing dry throat, moxa-burn the three points below Weiwanshu, each with one hundred moxa cones (Zhuang). The points are located three cun lateral to the spinous process of the eighth thoracic vertebra. (Another method suggests moxa-burning Xiongzhong fifty Zhuang. Additionally, moxa-burn Foot-Taiyang bladder meridian points fifty Zhuang.)
To treat Xiao Ke with unbearable dry mouth, moxa-burn Xiaochangshu with one hundred Zhuang, spaced three cun laterally.
For Xiao Ke with dry mouth and irritability, moxa-burn Foot-Jueyin liver meridian points with one hundred Zhuang.
Additionally, moxa-burn Yangchi with fifty Zhuang.
For Xiao Ke with cough and rebellious qi, moxa-burn Hand-Jueyin pericardium meridian points, with the number of Zhuang corresponding to the patient's age.
For Xiao Ke with frequent urination, moxa-burn the tips of both little fingers and both little toes, and moxa-burn the cervical spine area.
Additionally, moxa-burn one point at the center of the spinal column gap, and two points above Yaomu, totaling three sites.
Additionally, moxa-burn two points on either side of the spine, four cun below Pishu. All aforementioned moxibustions should use a number of Zhuang corresponding to the patient's age. Additionally, moxa-burn Shenshu at two locations.
Additionally, moxa-burn Yaomu, located three cun below Shenshu, also on both sides of the spine, one and a half cun lateral. Press with fingers to locate Guanyuan at one site. Additionally, two sites are located two cun lateral to these. Also, Yinshi at two sites, located three cun above the knee from Futu, near the knee. These can be arranged in two or three rows, one cun apart, named "Kidney System" (Huangdi Jing states: one cun below Futu). Ququan, Yinggu, Yinlingquan, and Fuliuxiu are excellent for stopping frequent urination without damaging Yang Qi. It is also said they treat enuresis. Taixi, Zhongfeng, RanGu, Taibai, Dada, Zuyang, Xingjian, Dadun, Yinbai, and Yongquan: each of these points is moxa-burned with one hundred Zhuang, totaling forty-seven sites on the abdomen, back, and feet. Among them, Shenshu, Yaomu, Guanyuan, and Shuidao can each be moxa-burned with thirty Zhuang, repeated every five days, reaching a total of one hundred fifty Zhuang, which is optimal. Yongquan (one site) can be moxa-burned with ten Zhuang; Dadun, Yinbai, and Xingjian (three sites) can each be moxa-burned with three Zhuang; all others with seven Zhuang. Repeat every five days. Stop after three courses of treatment. If symptoms recur and moxa-burning Yin meridian points fails, moxa-burn Yang meridian points, which are located on the dorsal surface of the foot. Also moxa-bear Feishu and its Mu point, following the flow-through acupoint method, with Zhuang counts similar to the Yin meridian moxibustion protocol.
For frequent, scanty, difficult urination accompanied by seminal emission upon exertion: Have the patient extend both hands and press palms together tightly, forcing the thumbs together until their nail beds are close. Moxa-burn the fleshy junction at the base of the thumbnails with one cone. The natural angle formed by the flesh should align with the cone, slightly penetrating the nail bed. Both thumbs share one cone. Similarly, moxa-burn the big toe of the foot using the same method, three cones each. Repeat this after three days.
