The *Guangji* text treats postpartum conditions involving wind, deficiency, and cold qi, with internal abdominal disharmony. This formula tonifies the body, promoting fleshiness, fairness, and luster of the skin.
Zelan (Herba Lycopi) (7 fen), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, processed with honey), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Shihu (Rhizoma Dendrobii), Wuyiren (Semen Pruni Mume), Xuduan (Radix Dipsaci), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (each 3 liang), Xiong (Radix Chuanxiong), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Baiziren (Semen Platycladi), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae Tenuifoliae bark) (each 4 fen), Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubra) (6 fen), Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) (6 fen), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 6 fen, processed with honey).
Crush the above seventeen herbs into powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 to 30 pills with wine, twice daily. (Observe usual dietary restrictions.)
The *Duanju* text treats postpartum wind-stroke. For patients with severe deficiency who cannot tolerate other medications, a single-herb Decoction of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis (Duhuo Tang) is indicated. Alternatively, a single-herb decoction of Cortex Dictamni (Baixian Tang) may be used, or a combined decoction of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis and Cortex Dictamni.
Take 3 liang of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis (Duhuo), boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and divide into doses. If using Naijiu (fruit wine), boil the herb with an equal amount of wine. When using Cortex Dictamni (Baixianpi), follow this same method.
The *Qianjin* text states that after childbirth, coitus should not occur until one hundred days have passed; otherwise, it may lead to death, extreme emaciation, and the proliferation of various diseases. One must be cautious. Generally, women suffer from wind-pathogen conditions, and coldness below the umbilicus invariably stems from this cause, specifically due to early resumption of sexual activity. Furthermore, if lochia (evil blood) has not cleared within seven days postpartum, decoctions should not be administered. Wait until the mass below the umbilicus dissipates before consuming Lamb Meat Decoction. If pain is extremely severe, this rule does not apply. After two or three days, once the patient's condition stabilizes, Zelan Wan (Pills of Herba Lycopi) can be taken. It is best to continue taking these pills until the full month postpartum period ends; otherwise, the deficiency damage will not resolve. For those who are extremely emaciated and incurable, take Wushi Zelan Wan (Five-Stone Pills of Herba Lycopi). Additionally, during the puerperium, one must take Zelan Wan. The rule for supplementation is that it must not be taken earlier than seven days postpartum. Women who exposed themselves to excessive cold during childbirth, contracting wind-cold, develop accumulations in the abdomen, leading to various diseases that persist until old age. Various methods are employed for treatment, including the administration of this formula.
There is also Tao Ren Jian (Decoction/Paste of Peach Kernels), which treats myriad diseases and addresses various postpartum conditions and qi disorders in women.
Take 1,200 kernels of Peach Seed (Tao Ren), remove the double-kernel tips and skins, and stir-fry until fragrant.
Crush this single ingredient until extremely fine and well-cooked. Add 1 dou 5 sheng of premium wine, grind for three to four cycles, similar to the method of making wheat porridge, ensuring the texture is as fine as possible. Place the mixture in a small long-necked porcelain jar, filling it completely. Seal the jar tightly with flour paste. Boil the sealed jar in a water bath for one fu-shi (two hours) without stopping the fire. Ensure the neck of the jar remains above the water level and does not submerge. Once prepared, mix one spoonful with warm wine and take twice daily. This is also highly beneficial for men.
The *Yannian* text presents Zelan Wan (Pills of Herba Lycopi), which treats postpartum wind-deficiency, emaciation, and anorexia, promoting a plump and radiant complexion.
Zelan (Herba Lycopi) (7 fen), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (10 fen), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 7 fen, processed with honey), Bencao (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong) (3 fen), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 3 fen, processed with honey), Shizhuyu (Fructus Corni Officinalis) (3 fen), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) (3 fen), Jiangjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) (3 fen), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) (3 fen), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (8 fen), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (4 fen), Baiziren (Semen Platycladi) (4 fen), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (4 fen), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (5 fen).
Crush and sieve the above fifteen herbs. Mix with honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 15 pills with wine, twice daily, increasing up to 25 pills if necessary. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
