Crush the above nine medicinal materials, sift them, and mix with honey to form pills. Within three days of initially contracting the *Shi Qi* disease (seasonal epidemic disease), take one pill on an empty stomach at dawn. The pill should be the size of a *Wu Tong* seed (seed of the Chinese parasol tree). After walking for the distance covered in ten *Li* (approximately 5 kilometers), the patient may experience vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating. If there is no vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating, administer another pill. After walking five *Li*, if still no symptoms occur, administer with hot water. Dosage for the elderly and children should be adjusted according to their condition. This formula cures jaundice, *Tan Yin* (phlegm-fluid retention), *Shi Qi* disease, *Shang Han* (cold damage), malaria, pediatric convulsive fever, and impending epilepsy without exception; it is particularly effective for treating miasma. It also cured a case of dysentery (red and white discharge). In early spring, for those with retained heat, taking this formula as directed to induce vomiting and diarrhea prevents summerheat diseases for the rest of the year. Avoid eating amaranth, reed shoots, wild boar meat, raw green onions, and raw vegetables. (From Volume II, identical to *Qian Jin Fang*)
Zhang Wenzhong treats *Tian Xing* disease (epidemic disease). If the condition persists after five or six days, presenting with headache, high fever, painful limbs, and inability to eat, use Da Huang Tang (Rhubarb Decoction).
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang) Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, remove hairs) Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) (0.5 liang) Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) (0.5 liang, split)
Chop the above four ingredients. Add eight sheng (approx. 1.6 liters) of water, boil until bubbling seven or six times, add one sheng of Chi Xiao Dou (Fermented Soybean) and seven stalks of Cong Bai (Scallion White), boil to obtain three sheng. Divide into three doses. This is Xu Tuiran's formula, which is highly effective. It is also used for *Shang Han* persisting for five or six days with headache, high fever, and limb pain, inducing sweating; suitable for all ages. Avoid pork and cold water. (Identical to *Duan Ju Fang* and *Bei Ji Fang*)
Also, Physician Zhi's Peach Leaf Soup Fumigation Method:
Use one dan (approx. 120 liters) of water to boil peach leaves, obtaining seven dou (approx. 70 liters) of liquid. Surround the body with mats, cover with clothing and blankets, place the peach leaf soup under the bed mat, and fumigate oneself with the heat. After a short time, profuse sweating should occur like rain. Once sweating is complete, remove the soup, wait for recovery, and quickly apply powder. Moxibustion on Dazhui (GV14) will lead to cure.
Also, Linqiu Steaming Method:
The classics state that death occurs if sweating is attempted repeatedly without success; steaming should be used instead, similar to the method for wind-stroke. Zhang Miao stated that he once treated someone who was exhausted from sweating, lay on a bamboo mat feeling cold and curled up, had attempted sweating eight times over four days without success. Zhang Miao heated the ground, laid leaves, and steamed the patient, resulting in profuse sweating. Applying powder in the bedding until dry led to recovery. This method is effective for inducing sweat. (Identical to *Bei Ji Fang*)
Also, Po Guan Qian Jin Tang (Break-the-Coffin Thousand-Gold Decoction) for critical *Tian Xing* heat-toxin.
Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) (1 liang)
Chop the single ingredient. Add two and a half sheng of wine (ancient texts specify vinegar/bitter wine); boil to obtain half a sheng. Strain and take all at once. Recovery is indicated by vomiting material resembling melted glue. Highly effective. (Identical to *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*; *Yan Nian Fang* treats *Tian Xing* day 4-5 with chest fullness/pain, high fever, and body pain. From Volume II)
