Disease Origin: The characteristic of Gan Xuan (Dry Tinea) is that it has only a defined border, the skin is dry and rough, and scratching causes white scales to fall off. This is caused by Wind-Dampness pathogenic factors invading the Cou Li (interstices of skin and muscles), combined with Cold-Dampness clashing with Blood and Qi. If the Wind-Toxic Qi is abundant while Dampness is scarce, the Wind pathogen sinks deeply, resulting in no exudate; this is called Gan Xuan (Dry Tinea), and insects may breed within it.
Furthermore, Shi Xuan (Wet Tinea) also has a border, spreading like insect movement, with redness, swelling, and dampness at the lesion. Scratching causes fluid discharge forming sores. This occurs because the Wind-Toxic Qi is superficial, with abundant Dampness and scarce Wind, hence it is called Shi Xuan (Wet Tinea), and insects may also breed within it. (From Volume 35)
