The *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept in the Sleeve) provides a method for treating pain caused by toxicity from wounds inflicted by bear or tiger claws and teeth.
Burn blue cloth and fumigate the wound with the smoke, so that the toxin is expelled. Then, boil kudzu root juice until it is concentrated and use it to wash the wound. Wash ten times a day. Additionally, crush kudzu root into powder, and take one *cunfang bi* (a square-inch measure of powder) orally with the boiled kudzu juice. Take five doses during the day, and two additional doses at night if the condition is severe (*Wenzhong Beiji*, *Yao Duanju* which deletes redundant content, *Gujin Luyan*, and *Qianjin Fang* for tiger bites are consistent with this).
Another method:
Chew millet and apply it to the wound. (*Yao Fang*, *Wenzhong Beiji*, *Gujin Luyan*, and *Qianjin Fang* are consistent).
Yet another method:
Boil pig iron until it has an iron taste, and use this water to wash the wound. (*Yao Fang*, *Wenzhong Beiji*, *Gujin Luyan*, and *Qianjin Fang* are consistent).
Generally speaking, fierce beasts and venomous insects are all affected by human "Jin Qi" (protective energy formed through incantations and intent). When entering mountain grasslands today, one should prepare and employ "Jin" (incantatory protection) beforehand to prevent injury, rather than waiting to treat after being attacked.
According to these esoteric arts: Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, first hold your breath for thirty-five breaths. Visualize the local mountain god bringing a tiger before you. Then, visualize (store thought) that the White Emperor emerges from your lungs, capturing the tiger's two eyes and blocking them in your lower body. Then exhale lung qi, visualizing it connecting upwards to the canopy of the forest. After a long while, hold your breath again for thirty-five breaths. Perform the "Dujian Mu" hand gesture/movement three steps. In each step, place the right foot forward, then stop. Recite the incantation: "Li Er, Li Er, was it not you who drew the talisman? You stole the Yellow Emperor's dog. The Yellow Emperor taught me to ask you, how will you answer?" Upon finishing, walk away. Tigers throughout the mountain will be unable to see you. If you suddenly encounter a tiger, stand upright, spread the five fingers of your left hand wide, turn your body to the side in a maximum defensive posture, jump up and down three times while waving your hands, and shout loudly during the jump: "Halt! The Lord of the Big Dipper commands you to leave!" The tiger will then flee. When lodging for the night, perform this action facing the four directions first.
Another method:
Realgar (Xionghuang), Sulfur (Liuhuang), Purple Quartz (Zishi).
Pulverize the above three substances, store them in a crimson bag, and wear it for prevention. (The original formula does not contain sulfur).
The *Jiyan Fang* provides a method for treating wounds from bear or tiger attacks.
Take a large handful of *Shuodiao* (Flemingia philippinensis), chop it finely, soak it in one sheng (approx. 200ml) of water for a moment, drink the extracted juice, and apply the remaining dregs to the wound.
The *Beiji Fang* provides a method for avoiding tigers when entering mountains.
Burn ox horns and sheep horns; tigers will dare not approach humans. (*Wenzhong Zhouhou*, *Qianjin*, and *Yao* are consistent; found in Volume 8).
