The etiology of this condition stems from kidney injury due to overexertion. This is caused by deficiency and coldness of Kidney Qi (Kidney Energy). The Kidneys govern water metabolism, and their orifices are located in the yin region. The yin region serves as the pathway for urination and defecation. When the bladder is cold and the kidneys are damaged, it results in urine that is white and resembles fat or grease, or appears like bran flakes. (Excerpted from Volume 4)
Cui Shi's prescription for excessive drinking leading to urine containing fatty substances, dry tongue, and thirst:
* Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 5 liang)
* Gualuan (Trichosanthis Fructus, 5 liang)
Pulverize the above two herbs. Mix with juice of fresh Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) to form pills, shaping them into hand-sized balls. Take fifty pills after each meal, washed down with cow's milk. Administer twice daily. Avoid pork.
Jin Xiao Fang for Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome) characterized by heat in the Liver and Lungs, emaciation, alternating chills and fever, dry mouth, excessive drinking day and night, urine resembling fat/grease, and critical condition approaching death:
* Shuifei Tiefen (Calculated Magnetitum, 3 liang, thoroughly dried and ground separately before adding)
* Ji (Gallus gallus domesticus, 5 pieces, dried in shade and ground into powder before adding)
* Muli (Ostreae Concha, 2 liang, calcined and ground into powder separately before adding)
* Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 liang)
Pulverize and sieve the above four herbs three to five times. Mix with refined honey to form pills. Wash down with beverage juice; pills should be the size of wutong seeds, fifty per dose. Another prescription for Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome) with dry mouth:
* Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma)
* Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum, sun-dried)
Pulverize the above two herbs together and form pills. Take forty pills after meals, washed down with beverage juice, twice daily. The pills should be slightly larger than standard medicinal pills. Regular use is effective. Avoid pork.
Another prescription for Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome) with polydipsia, sweet-smelling urine resembling fat/bran flakes, and frequent urination (60-70 times day and night):
* Donggua (Benincasae Fructus, 1 melon)
* Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 10 liang)
Cut off the head of the melon, remove the pulp, and insert Huanglian powder. Roast in fire until the Huanglian is cooked. Strain through cloth to extract the juice. Take one large cup per dose, twice daily. It suffices to consume two or three melons until recovery. Another method states: Mix melon juice with Huanglian powder to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take thirty pills on an empty stomach with melon juice, twice daily. If not cured, increase the number of pills. Avoid pork and cold water.
