The etiology of seminal emission during urination due to deficiency consumption (Xu Lao) lies in the decline of Kidney Qi. The Kidneys store essence, and their qi connects with the genitalia. Damage from overwork leads to Kidney deficiency, resulting in the inability to secure essence; thus, essence flows out along with urine during micturition. (From Volume 4)
Shen Shi's prescription for treating seminal emission in men:
Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Tu Gua Gen (Benincasae Caulis) (each 2 liang).
Crush and mix the above three herbs, then sift. Combine with Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) juice to form pills the size of wu zi (Cibotii Spores or similar small seeds). Take three pills before meals for best results. (Fan Wang records using four fen, the rest being the same.)
Another prescription for seminal emission, turbid white urine, and nocturnal emission: Jiu Zi San (Leek Seed Powder):
Jiu Zi (Allii Tuberosi Semen), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) (each 1 sheng), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (3 pieces, processed), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Fan Shi (Alum) (calcined, each 3 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex) (1 liang).
Crush and mix the above eight herbs, then sift. Take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure of powder) with warm wine, three times daily. Alternatively, combine with honey to form pills the size of wu zi, taking five pills with wine. Avoid pork, cold water, and raw scallions. (Same as Qian Jin Fang, From Volume 3)
Qian Jin Fang's prescription for deficiency consumption with seminal emission:
Jiu Zi (Allii Tuberosi Semen) (2 sheng), Nuo Mi (Glutinous Rice) (1 sheng).
Take the above two ingredients, add 17 sheng of water, and boil until porridge-like consistency. Extract 6 sheng of liquid and divide into three doses. This method also applies to spontaneous seminal overflow.
Another prescription:
Zhe Bai Pi (Mori Cortex or related bark) (5 he), Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex) (5 he, sliced).
Slice the above two ingredients, add 5 sheng of wine, and boil down to 3 sheng. Divide into three doses. (In another version, Zhe Bai Pi is replaced by Shiu Liu Pi/Punica Granati Cortex.)
Another prescription:
Gan Jiao (Dried Gelatin) (2 liang, roasted).
Pulverize this single ingredient, mix with 2 sheng of wine, and take in three divided warm doses until cured. (In another version, Lu Jiao Jiao/Cervi Cornus Colla is used.)
Another prescription:
Xin Jiu Zi (Fresh Allii Tuberosi Semen) (2 sheng, harvested after frost in October).
Soak this single ingredient in 8 he of good wine overnight. On a clear morning, have a young boy face south and pound it ten thousand times. In the early morning, take one fang cun bi with 5 he of warm wine, twice daily.
Another prescription for urinary incontinence of essence and nocturnal emission:
Jiu Zi (Allii Tuberosi Semen) (1 sheng, stir-fried), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 sheng, heart removed), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen) (2 he), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) (2 he), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome) (2 liang), Bai Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi) (3 liang).
Crush and sift the above six herbs. Take one fang cun bi with wine, three times daily. If ineffective, gradually increase the dose. For severe cases, add one dose at night. (Zhou Hou Hou Bei Fang later adds Ze Xie/Alismatis Rhizoma 1.5 liang; all from Volume 19)
Gu Jin Lu Yan Ji Ci Wan (Thorn Pill from Ancient and Modern Records), treating various ailments in men, specifically excessive urination and seminal emission:
Ji Ci (Tribuli Fructus) (2 liang), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Bi Bo (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen), Bai Zi Ren (Platycladi Semen), Cong Rong (Cynomorii Herba), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Xiao Cao (Radix Glehniae or similar), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Fang Kui (Peucedani Radix), Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (each 1 liang), Shi Long Rui (Ranuncelli Ternati Radix) (2 liang), Ba Ji Tian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) (2 liang), Wu Tou (Aconiti Radix) (0.5 liang, processed).
Crush and sift the above eighteen herbs. Mix with honey and half a chicken egg yolk, pounding 5,000–6,000 times. Take ten pills (size of wu zi) with drink, three times daily, gradually increasing to thirty pills as tolerated. Avoid pork, cold water, raw scallions, and raw vegetables. (Wei Rui/Glehniae Radix is included in Qian Jin Fang; Shen Shi Fang is identical; all from Volume 10)
